Drexel ACE STUDENTS or GRADUATES

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

This post is intended for ACE students or graduates. I've been searching the ACE threads for several hours now and I noticed the accepted students tend to take over the threads therefore questions from prospective students go unanswered. My question is for people who are in the ACE program or have graduated.

What I would like to know is, do you have to be good in Science to be in this program? I graduated 5 years ago and my last science class was like 7 years ago. And from what I remember Biology was not my best subject. But that was YEARS ago so that may be different now. Would you recommend this program for someone who was a "C" student in science? Also, I noticed people talking about the drop-outs, would you mind sharing why those students dropped out.

It's totally doable. I started in the beginning of March and graduated at the end if the following March so that's nearly 13 months by my count. I studied every day but I also watched TV, hung out with my kids every day, went to the movies, played in a band, etc. etc. and finished with a pretty high GPA and a decent education. It's all about organizing your time and not going insane. I went right into a busy inner city hard-core ICU with no problems so I disagree about needing more clinical time. Frankly, you don't get to do much real nursing in nursing school anyway so the clinical time is overrated. If you're willing to take a beating with a smile the ACE program is for you.

Hey - Thanks for the positive thread. I am starting in September and I am beginning to think I should have never started reading these posts!

Thanks again.

I agree w/ piper it's doable. Would I do it all over again? Actually yes. I'll have my degree in 9 days after just 11 mos. Would I recommend this program? Yes but will caution that you have to be able to handle stressful situations and roll with the flow. Do I feel confident after completing the ACE program? Yes and after making it thru this program I feel I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. Just know before beginning that you set your mind to sacrificing a year. Plus I did not study all day and night. I actually think I had a lot of free time when I think about it. You can do it! I believe you yourself can make it more stressful than it really is. So just relax and put in crunch time when you need to.

Lunise...what section are you in? We're obviously in the same quarter since you said you graduate in 9 days.

Well, in response to the original question, you are going to find people who recommend the program and those who don't, you will find people who are confident, and those who aren't. Me personally, I wouldn't recommend this program. It's too fast and I don't feel I learned enough to start taking care of patients. Midterm weeks and finals weeks are very, very stressful. I believe it's second quarter where you have 8 exams in one week, which is absolutely ridiculous. Yeah, you will have free time, but I don't think it's a hell of a lot. I mean, while everyone is off down the shore this weekend or out partying and BBQing, I'll be sitting in my apartment with a book in my face preparing for finals. Not fun. I just personally feel asks for almost too much.

Thank you for your input...very helpful. I was wondering if you know of anyone who commuted from Delaware? If so, where do you park? Is there a form of public transportation that they took or did they drive themselves? Any help from you, or any other alumni, on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanx!

This is in response to "selfsupporting"'s message from today. I knew of people who commuted from Delaware, Atlantic City, Reading, Pottstown, etc. I believe you can catch the R3 train from Delaware and get off at Suburban Station, or if you want to drive, there is $5/day parking at 12th and Callowhill. The parking lot across the street from is $12/day. Me personally, I'm partial to taking the train. I don't have to deal with traffic, plus it gave me time to get some studying out of the way, especially if you have to kill an hour by commuting back to DE.

I commuted from Delaware - north Wilmington. I took the train in for class days and drove for clinical days. The train is great for study time. When I did drive into class or clinical at Hahn I parked in one of the $5 lots just north of the hospital on Broad street.

Can you tell me how much the daily round trip train ticket cost? Did you have to pay for parking where you picked the train up in DE, too? Thank you for your help.

I don't remember - moved out of DE a couple of years ago. Check the septa web site for that info.

Hello,

I just started the Ace program yesterday and it seems like everyone around me is totally freaking out. I just planned on taking it one day at a time and wondered what your best advice was to a newby like me :). Also, I saw a few posts from former ACE grads who mentioned that they realized after buying a majority of the books they did not need all of them. Siting that the professors tested mainly based on lecture notes and that there are only a few books that were really necessary. Is that true? Any input you have would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!

I am sorry, I am really new. What do you mean by PM if we have any questions?
