Dont know what to say....PLEASE help

What do you say to a potential employer when they ask you why did you leave your last position when the reason is because you need more med/surg experience? I worked in PICU and just felt like I needed med/surg experience first. I want to eventually go back cause I loved working that floor. The problem is it seems when I tell the managers that, they think I'm just going to stay with them for a year then leave. Yes that may be true but right now I just want to get a job and get that experience. Any suggestions?

You could say you feel you need more medical surgical opportunities which was not offered at your present facility for strengthening or advancing your skills as a nurse. Don't even talk about wanting to go back later or imply that.

you tell them you need/want med/surg experience, and if they express reluctance, you assure them that if the job goes well, there'd be no reason for you to leave...

followed with an irrestible smile.:D

you'll be fine, and shouldn't have any problem getting a job.

if any mgrs are like me (when i was doing this stuff), despite my doubts, i would sometimes hire nurses and deal with it 'tomorrow'...

Hi, It sounds like what you need to tell them is exactly what you wrote in your paragraph. You sound ambitious, and if they are smart people, they will know that you are going to go a long way in your nursing career. Good Luck!
