Don't know if I can keep going

I'm 22 months clean and not sure if I can keep doing this(not my sobriety). Not sure if I can keep participating in the monitoring program. I joined the NCBON AP in Nov 2011 and have been testing since December of that year. Working at minimum wage, I have somehow managed to pay every month for drug testing, my house is in foreclosure and bill collectors are hounding me on a daily basis. I have to pay $152 on Monday and only have $200 in the bank...hard for 3 people to live for a week off of $48. Just need some advice or a financial counselor..lol not sure which one! I don't want to put a mark on my license but can't seem to find a job anyway...had one in March and the board said no. Just wondering if I should keep going and hold on to the thought that I might get an RN job eventually...or do I feed my kid and keep a roof over his head???

Find a caduceus meeting in your area, there is one in driving distance. These meetings are full of HCP docs, nurses you name it. Go in share your story your sobriety and get to know them. Most likely there will be a doc that after he/she knows you would be willing to bring you into his practice. If you are willing there are ways, 10, or 11 dollars an hour for a year to get those restrictions off is a lot better than nothing at all. Addicts tend to help each other out and being in NC also I know for a fact they will approve the doc supervising you. Good luck

I am facing similar issues. It is very difficult to hold your head up when you are facing so many rejections. Are there any peers in recovery where you are that can help you get your foot in the door?

Same here. Wish I had a magic solution for you but I don't :( Though I will plug psych nursing: we're pretty recovery-friendly and there's some settings with few to no narcotics/CS.

Recovery is a hard road. I wish you the best of luck in that and in your job hunt.
