Dominican College ABSN 2021

Published

Hello everybody!

I recently applied to Dominican College Weekday ABSN 2021 and would like to meet current applicants, current or former students.  I would also like to read about others experience and thoughts about the school/nursing program in general.

Let's share our experience through this process.

Thanks!

@plags09 Thanks, yesterday afternoon!

I wonder if they are doing the same thing for the ABSN day program. I have been checking my email as well as my portal and mailbox and still haven't heard/received anything. I'm hoping I hear back soon!

@plags09 I would definitely reach out just to see if you can get an update. I’m assuming everyone will find out very soon, because when I called early last month I was told they would send out decisions end of Feb-March.

Yea you're right, I should! Who did you speak with or reach out to?

I wonder if they are doing it one by one, like why wouldn't they send out the same email to all the accepted students? Also, I wonder what made them change it to email. I was told to expect the acceptance letter in the mail LOL.

@plags09 I contacted the coordinator for the Weekend program, but I believe the Weekday program has a different coordinator.
Also, I don’t know if everything has switched over to email acceptances or if the ABSN program gets them through the mail. I say this bc the first acceptance in this thread was for the ABSN program & was received through the mail...while the first WABSN on the thread was through email. I guess it’s possible the different programs do things differently? I’m truly guessing here though & have no idea what the true process is.

Yes, they do have different coordinators. I think it would be best to contact the coordinator who is in charge of the ABSN program. But you are definitely right when comparing the different acceptances that have been sent out to the WABSN and ABSN.

Hey Everyone!

For anyone who applied to the ABSN program, acceptance letters have been sent and all spots have been filled. I just wanted to let you all know because I just found out and I know some of you have been waiting as well.

Hello Everyone! Congrats to those who got accepted.  I am a current weekday ABSN student at dominican college graduating May 2021. If you have any questions feel free to ask away. Good luck!

Hi,yes I have actually quite a few questions.

is the program hybrid? Or are classes on zoom and clinicals in person?

did anyone work partime? Say on the weekends like Saturday and Sunday?

when do clinicals start?

which is the hardest class in your opinion in the program?

what’s the best way to study pharm?

How many hours would you say is needed for studying a week?

what time are the class hours from? And what’s the latest you have been at a class?

Do clinicals start at 7 am? Do you go to class and clinicals the same day?

thanks I’m advance,

I might have followup questions

is the program hybrid? Or are classes on zoom and clinicals in person?

- The program is not hybrid but because of covid our classes were almost fully online. I believe when you start it will be back to normal meaning fully in person.

did anyone work partime? Say on the weekends like Saturday and Sunday?

- in this program there are 3 terms for the 1st term I am almost positive  nobody worked. We are in the third term now and most of us are working part time.

when do clinicals start?

- Clinicals start right away in Fundamentals which is the 1st class you will be taking. we didn't start going to clinical until October because of COVID.

which is the hardest class in your opinion in the program?

- Peds/ maternity were difficult in the sense that you had only 2 weeks to learn peds and 2 weeks to learn maternity and I would say Med surg.

what’s the best way to study pharm?

- The best way to study for Pharm is to listen to what the prof wants you focus on. It can be overwhelming but each prof will guide you to the most important information. The textbook for the class was really good and the drug guide is a must.

How many hours would you say is needed for studying a week?

- This program is fast and intense so the more you study the better. It's not only studying there are so many assignments as well as preparing for clinicals and simulation.

what time are the class hours from? And what’s the latest you have been at a class?

- we typically have 2 days of lecture and 3 days of clinical so Mon-Fri. The latest class I had was pharm and we finished around 4 or 5. Normally its from 8-2 or maybe even 3. Again we were remote so your schedule may be different.

Do clinicals start at 7 am? Do you go to class and clinicals the same day?

Clinicals depends on your instructor. I would go in at 8am for the most part but I did have a prof who wanted us at the hospital at 7:30am for Family health. and no clinical and lecture were on different days for us. Not sure if it will be the same for you.

If you have any other questions I will gladly answer!

Do you happen to have the name of the textbook for pharm? I can’t seem to figure it which it is besides the drug guide

when you mean people are working part time in the 3rd semester, what type of roles? Like pct, nurses aide or non clinical job? I did notice nursing students were volunteering to give covid vaccines to patients

im confused do students have to take the TEAS in the first semester while also studying for classes? I thought the TEAS weren’t required
