Does LPN transfer to any 2 year schools towards RN?

Updated:   Published

I am starting my LPN program tomorrow and I want to continue on for my RN. I live in the Buffalo NY area and was wondering if anyone knows if the LPN program counts towards any of your associate degree? Does any of it transfer to places like NCCC, GCCC, Buff State, ECCC, Trocaire? Any information would be greatly appreciated !

well out here in california the adn programs im applying to are based on a point system and having a license in the medical field will give you so many points. For example, having your lvn will get you 8 points and having your cna will give you 4. BUT the credits i was told is non-transferrable but your title helps you ALOT.

Most community colleges have LPN-RN programs, where you usually only have to do the 2nd year of the RN program. Although you still do need to have your prereqs done for the RN program. You'll have to look into local colleges and see what programs they offer and which classes you'll need to take, every school has their own requirements and usually you can find it right on their website.

[color=#2f4f4f]definitely look into bridge opportunities. you can bridge lpn-rn relatively quick to get your associates (in my area, after you complete core classes, you will be in the bridge program for only 1 year and receive your associates, i think most are similar), and even in some cases, you may find an lpn-bsn program to go for your bachelor's if that may be something you also want to eventually do.

I do not know about your local area but be aware that many LPN to RN bridge programs require work experience. That requirement never made sense to me. The existing students in the ADN program had little to no healthcare experience so why did us LVNs/LPNs need six months to a year of experience to join them? I don't know but the requirement is common where I live.

Also, go to the counselors of the schools you are interested in applying. If the nursing programs have their own nursing counselors, great. Go to them. Chances are, they know the lay of the land better than counselors of your current school.

I am working towards my LVN to RN Bridge program here in California...Luckily this one does not require prior work experience
