Any american nurses working in a hospital in the USA that tells staff they can no longer say "Merry Christmas"? Are there hospitals here in our country that are forcing their staff to only say "happy holidays" and not allowing them to say "Merry Christmas"?
I'm just curious if this is becoming an issue in the nursing profession? I recently spoke to some public school teachers here in Florida who told me they can say happy holidays but they can't say Merry Christmas. I have read that many department stores and other retail businesses are no longer using the word Christmas, but replacing it with Happy Holidays and Season's Greetings.
I haven't heard of this being a trend in any hospitals in my area, but very curious if this is taking place in hospitals in other states?
What about people who don't believe in 'HOLIDAYS"?There are sooo many more important things to bicker about.

A) No one's religion bars holidays in the generic sense...
B) It's basically a religious argument. Of course the dominant religion would consider it a 'minor' thing to bicker about.
C) If it was so minor, you won't have a problem capitulating and saying 'Happy Holidays.'

It just seems picky to me and I'm not going to change something I've done for almost 50 years, to a more generic and politically correct term.
I hate giving in to political correctness. Just my own little perverse nature I guess.

People are too easily offended about things like this these days. In reality, Christmas is mostly a seasonal, gift-giving holiday, not really a religious one. In actuality, the Christian Church adopted the Pagan calendar of festivals and Christianized them, and these were based upon the seasons. The birth of Jesus coincides with the time right after the darkest day of the year, the winter solstice. The resurrection of Jesus occurs in Spring, just as the Earth itself is experiencing rebirth.
Did not know about them. I, however, would not tell them Happy Holidays now that I know. It's a small point. A small gesture of respect for them. Easy enough to do.
Shrug
My Stepmother grew up Jehovah Witness, she felt very left out of everything, it was hard on her. It's hardest on the kids, surrounded by all these fun holidays, not being able to have a birthday party.

By adopted you mean 'stole in an attempt to suppress the previous religion and pacify the newly dominated peoples.'
You are right though. All of the Christian holidays have their basis in pagan holidays.
However...
People are too sensitive? Too politically correct? Would any of you stick by that if I go back to the un-politically correct way of referring to women??? Yea, I didn't think so. The dominant group doesn't decide what should offend the minority group.
As women, I'm sure you agree. As Christians I'm sure you'll argue to the bitter end.

The "un-politically correct"? Do you mean rude or mean or ugly? That isn't "politically correct".
It is just rude.
Of course, I have no idea what term you are referring to . . . "my old lady", "the old ball and chain", etc.
I don't think "rude term for woman" and "Merry Christmas" are equal ideas.

Many, if not most un-politically correct terms are rude.
Would you call me colored because you don't like the politically correct AA?
You can't separate the non-politically correct and the rude. They usually coincide.
Let's use another example. The appropriate term for woman USED TO BE wench. Now, obviously, that is offensive, because I am KIND enough and RESPECTFUL enough to recognize that it is.
That is political correctness. Now, I can just say I don't want to be politically correct and that wench was acceptable before so it should be now and that it is silly that you even get offended.
That's why the whole, I don't want to be politically correct argument is bunk. What that REALLY means is f#$% everybody else and how they feel. I am gonna do what I want.
Now, I wholly support that as I do that sometimes as well.
But like my father used to say. If you wanna act like a man you gotta ACT like a man.
That means no hiding behind silly arguments and cover. If you want to throw the punch, be ready to take a punch. Admit what you feel and do. If you can't admit it and stand behind it don't do it.
Not caring how others feel about it is rude and disrespectful. Not admitting that it is rude and disrespectful while still doing it is just plain ole disingenuous.
Heh...
