Does hospice home care require OASIS charting?

We don't do OASIS charting, we use different type of computer charting. And, unfortunately, yes, we do a lot of "unpaid" charting. Takes me between 15-45 minutes (sometimes more..) per patient tochart. It seems that's a given in todays nursing world.

I charge for every minute I chart or do paperwork. I won't work without being compensated. No, we don't use OASIS, but there is a boatload of paperwork to fill out and keep current, and some of it seems pretty redundant.

OASIS charting is NOT required by Medicare for HOSPICE pts, thank God !!

I did that at the first hospice I worked at. They said (even though I'm an LPN) that I was salaried so it was expected. However, no mention of comp time. (Hmm, who did I supervise, anyway?)

I did it at the second hospice I worked at (we moved). I was told I had poor time management skills on my review. Consequently, took a hit on salary increase. Second year, I still did the same hours/same case load - i.e. no change in how I document - but put straight time. Guess what? My "time management" improved! It's a big joke. And it happens to every hospice nurse I know. Why do I, and we, put up with it? Because I love my job too much to quit. Management knows that, and uses it against us. Sad but true. And no, I'm not the type to give in, but this was too big of a fight I knew I'd lose.
