Does a degree from west coast university transfer to cal state?

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello.

I have been trying to find out if an associates degree from West Coast University is accepted at either Cal State L.A. or Cal State Northridge.

I tried contacting the schools but got the run around instead.

I'm really interested in attending WCU, but I want to clarify this first.

I know I could go to Univ. of Phoenix and other private school.

Any reply would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.:)

i went to meet the admission at the ontario campus... it was supposed to be just for info but when i got there, they told me to fill out a paper...then i loooked at it and it was an admissions paper. then when i went to talk to the guy, he was very nice but pushy at the same time. he told me a lot of info and one thing he told me that was since they are a private school, only some schools will accpet their credits. i think he said something about cbu, ucla, and lima linda... i dunno. he says you have to do you research to see where it transfers. they bsn program seems great but man...freakin 160,000 dollars! and they say financial aid will help but the school can only provide like 50,000 and you have to get the rest through a private bank yourself! how scary is that! i dunno...

after the "interview" i had, the admissions rep called me like every other day and left me voice mails and emails. i felt a little like they really wanted my money! i do have a frriend that has a brother in law who graudated from their and really enjoyed it...but i dunno if it is worth it.

I am having the same issue! I went to the tour last week and am scheduled to take my test next fri. I only have half of my pre-reqs done.Im really not sure what im gonna do, the debt is really scary but the potential to get in and get out of school is very appealing esp since i am already 30 with two kids and i cant waste anymore time!...

ok... soo... it's like this?

Do GE at a CC

transfer to WCU

get my bsn at wcu... (like have the degree in my hand)

i CAN transfer to cal state fullerton for MSN

correct?

i really want to go to this school too like janina said i'm a mother with 2 kids...

and i need my degree to get the hizeck out of mommas house... lol

If your stuck at Mom's house with 2 kids then paying 120k for a BSN is really not in your best interest. It will take forever to pay off the student loans which will cripple you and may keep you at your mom's house

I should also point out that WCU has not yet graduated a cohort from its BSN only program so you can't gauge how employees will view new grads from there.

Employment statistics from the LVN-RN program is not relevant either since logically a working LVN with connections would likely have a greater time finding employment after upgrading their license. A new grad with NO experience would be viewed differently.

Times are tough for nurses in LA a RN is no longer license to print money esp if your new.

tothepoint...

ya i get your point...

but... lol

i'm not at moms due to money i'm at moms for security and I would like to believe that nursing is far more secure then sales... (oh how i hate you quota!!)

and the guy said that with my "circumstances" i could qualify to go to the school for only 40k

so if it was 40k i'm down... if not then a 6 year stint in school is my plan lol...

40k vs 120k is a big difference. Make sure they aren't just telling you that you'd pay 40k out of pocket.

I graduated from the sister school of WCU and while my education was ok it wasn't because the school loved us and wanted to treat us well. Once they have your money they are no longer concerned with keeping you happy.

The tuition office are vultures and I'm not one to throw around insults. I got everything squared away upfront and did not make monthly payments but they was some billing error where I guess they thought that I owed $50. I got a notice handed to me in class labeled final notice and couldn't return to class until I went down to the office. No bill in the mail nothing then 2 months later I got a refund check for the same amount.

Many students were kept out of class missed test and lectures because they were behind by a few days. Not even a full 30days

Also a classmate was told that due to her low income she would only have to pay $3k vs 30k. Unfortunately what they meant was $27k goes on the loans and you pay $3k cash. At 21%

oooooohhhhh i see what you are saying...

INcorrect. Your BSN from WCU will not transfer to a CSU/UC. WCU is not accredited within the same system as the state schools. If the MSN is your end goal, stay away from WCU. Even if you can get it for 40K.

Apgar10 researched this quite extensively I believe so I would trust her opinion on this one.

On an aside where did you end up choosing to go since I know your goal is to become a CNM

I'm at a community college doing an ADN. When I'm done, I can go from ADN -> MSN/CNM with a program called Frontier (http://midwives.org/). If I have some sort of epiphany about a new calling, I've seen that Cal State LA has a number of ADN to MSN-NP programs that might be interesting :)

That programs sounds like a perfect fit for your needs.

In todays economy rushing to get your RN may not be the best idea with many new grads coming out with no job offers. WCU LVN-ADN always seemed pretty popular but as time went by I kept on hearing about many grads from there being excluded from new grad programs and only being able to find jobs at LTC's. When the nursing "shortage" was at its peak I don't think employers cared where you went. Now they can be more picky.

CAN'T TRANSFER!! Yep, I went there and wasted thousands of dollars for a few semesters. Had to quit due to the cost (was not able to get a loan large enough for the rest of the schooleyear) and then couldn't even transfer the 6 classes I completed ANYWHERE! I wasted nearly $20,000 for 6 classes that don't transfer to regular colleges because they are not WASC accredited!

wow thats sucks! sorry sumtopa
