Does anyone work for Texas Children's Hospital (Houston)...?

Hello everyone...

I am very excited to say that I have accepted a position at Texas Children's Hospital!!! :cheeky:

This is going to be quite the adventure leaving California and moving my family down to Texas. I hear it is a whole different world done there.

I am writing to ask for info regarding people's experiences with TCH and to see if anyone has any tips, suggestions, or comments for me regarding the hospital, where to live, or anything else you can think of as I prepare to move.

I am considering moving to Katy and commuting to Houston instead of living in the city. I have heard great things about Katy and it seems like a great family place.

Thank you for any advice! :D

If you are going to be working at the main TCH campus in The Medical Center (TMC), you will have quite a commute to deal with. I'm very familiar with that route, as I had to cope with it for many years. It can take from 30 minutes to > 2 hours, depending on time of day or traffic mishaps along the way. My advice? Invest in audio books. If you're working days, you will also need some Hellen Keller quality sunglasses because you're always driving directly into the sun - LOL. Make sure you are completely clear of the remote parking situation as there are several lots to which you may be assigned. You may want to investigate van pool options for TMC workers... you will find out about them when you attend orientation.

TCH, like all TMC hospitals, is a great place to work. Lots of career development and educational opportunities. If you are keen on advancing your education, there are university-based nursing programs within walking distance.

Katy is a terrific area with some top-notch schools and a wide variety of housing options - from low cost rentals to multi-million dollar gated enclaves. I'm sure you won't have any trouble finding something that is just right for you and your family. I hope you will enjoy Houston. I wouldn't live anywhere else but it isn't everyone's cup of java. Be sure to gear up for Rodeo season in early March - it's the biggest one in Texas... it's a lot of fun Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo | Rodeo Houston | Houston, Texas Rodeo.

Hi.

I work for TCH and it is a great company to work for. The benefits are good and most people are really friendly.I recently interviewed for a graduate nurse position. How long did it take for you to hear something back? Welcome to Texas Children's Hospital family

BTW I have coworkers who live in Katy and complain about the drive to the medical center. In my opinion, Katy is absolutely beautiful but it is far. I would check out Pearland and Sugarland.

Thank you! When was your interview?

I heard back within about a week of my interview.

You are welcome. My interview was last Monday.

Sugarland is just as bad (if not worse some days). Pearland is starting to get to be a bad commute also.

If you do stay in Katy, their is a TCH campus in Katy you could maybe transfer to eventually.

Great News. I was offered a job today in Labor and Delivery. God is good!

Hi.

I am unable to message you back. I keep getting an error stating I have not made 15 post which will allow me to send a private message. I have the same date for orientation. You are going to love TCH:yes:

No worries... I got the message about having the same orientation. It's weird that it let you send PM's but now it won't.

Oh well.:sorry:

I will PM you my email.
