Hello...
I just recently got a call from one of the hospice centers here in AZ and they are offering me a job (as a CNA then later on RN when i grad). I just want to know if theres anyone out there who works at a hospice center, how is it like? Any input would be greatly appreciated...:-)

You should check out the hospice forum. Haven't worked at a hospice center, but have had hospice patients in a LTC facility and as home health clients. Requirement to work with the hospice nurse for the patient; special attention to pain relief and grief work with the family.

It's very rewarding work. I worked in hospice but cared for people in their homes instead of a facility. Best of luck to you.

You're very lucky - that's where I eventually want to end up. Maybe I should become a CNA while I'm in school to up my chances. I had assumed I'd have to get hopsital experience before being hired on with hospice. What hours will you work while you're in school?

I love home hospice. I have known nurses/cnas loose it when patient's respirations progress to Kussmaul's. The other part is many have cancer - and some ostomy bags will make you want to puke. Patients having terminal restlessness, drugs not taking away all the pain, three or four patients deaths being time wise very close together, family members are also top issues. Some nurses/cnas are just not cut out for hospice-but excellent in other fields. Yes - read the hopice section.
