Specializes in Pediatrics, Lactation, Case Management.

I love it. I have been working as a case manager for about 4 1/2 years now. Love it so much I became certified last year.

Are you a case manager yourself?

I like it better than clinical nursing. But it is stressful and I work A LOT. I plan to stay in this field though.

i love it!!! for the second time in my career as a nurse, i am proud to be a nurse! the first time i was proud to be a nurse was after i returned to school to earn my bsn degree and i met extraordinary instructors who introduced me to the professional aspect of this profession.

I love hospice case management!

Specializes in Peds, Psych, Medical Home Case Manager.

Absolutely! I've only been doing it for 7 months now, and it is a lot of work. But work isn't "work" when you love what you do.

I have stayed up until midnight about every day this week charting and I have cried twice, but this is just one of those weeks...does anyone else ever feel totally overwhelmed sometimes?

Specializes in Peds, Psych, Medical Home Case Manager.

Absolutely. I rarely get out "on time" these days. In fact, this was the week from hell. But I still love my job.

I believe that hospice case managers are rarely well oriented to the professional role, they are precepted on the tasks and documentation, but not as well on the expanded role of accountability. Part of the problem for hospice case managers also includes delegation (or lack of) of duties and interventions. Too many hospices have too few MSW and Pastoral resources to provide the care that often over burdens the RNs.

All of this leads to burnout, compassion fatigue, and tears on our paperwork. So, mtngrl, please talk to your team leader or manager. See if you can get some help with your daily work so that you can experience success as a hospice case manager. It may extend your life in the profession.

Thanks for all of the responses. I am not a case manager myself but am trying move my career in that direction. I just kept hearing complaints from posts and people and didn't know if I was making a mistake. I like to be busy and you all sound pretty positive so I will be continuing my search! Thanks again.
