https://www.ncsbn.org/02_18_05_brief.pdf[color=#231f20][color=#231f20][color=#231f20]using the candidate responses, the difficulty of the [color=#231f20][color=#231f20][color=#231f20]items relative to each other (not relative to the candidates) [color=#231f20][color=#231f20][color=#231f20]is assessed. once the hierarchy of difficulty [color=#231f20][color=#231f20]for items is established, then the ability of a candidate [color=#231f20]can be described as the point on this item hierarchy, [color=#231f20]or continuum, where the candidate has a 50-[color=#231f20][color=#231f20][color=#231f20]50 chance of correctly answering an item. when a [color=#231f20]candidate encounters an item that is lower than his [color=#231f20]or her ability, then he or she will have a greater than [color=#231f20]50-50 chance of answering the item correctly.

[color=#231f20]conversely, when a candidate encounters an item that is higher than his or her ability, then he or she [color=#231f20]will have a less than 50-50 chance of answering the question correctly. the deviation from 50-50 is
[color=#231f20]governed by the size of the difference between the person’s ability and the item’s difficulty.
[color=#231f20]
[color=#231f20]substantively, a candidate’s ability could be described by illustrating the type of item that they find [color=#231f20]challenging.
I heard different. For the NCLEX-RN. u pass if you get 50% of the higher level questions or u fail if you get only 50% of the lower level questions right. The computer will assess your percentage of correct answers after 75 questions. and if it meets the above criteria to pass or fail it shuts off. remember its a computer adaptive test, so the more higher level questions you answer the better. and it deducts the 15 experimental questions because they dont affect your result.

Just wondering if the NCLEX is figured on percentage? Wondering what percentage I need to pass. Have just started doing the NCLEX 3500 and not doing the best, but it has also been 6 years since I last took the exam.
Thanks!
