  1. Hi, I got hired in Ortho Surgery as a first assist with my FNP background with no OR experience. But BostonFNP is right, I first got hired to work at Ortho Clinic so I spend 4/5 days at Clinic, preoping patients for surgery and then seeing postops. First assisting is about 30-40%.
  2. I know it's counterproductive but I'm earning an FNP certificate as my personal plan B. I already have my BSN I can fall back on. But ultimately want to become a CRNA and a future scholar in that field. Currently, I am a first year FNP student. I know I practice some medicine already just by working FT as an telemetry RN in a teaching hospital with prior ICU experience. I always collaborate with Attendings and give recommendations to interns and residents when it comes to prescribing meds to acute patients. I make my own assessment/planning and can deal with the stress of working with complex cases/people just in the staff nurse role. I am 25 years old with one more year to finish the FNP program. I feel if I just focused on being CRNA without a background in family medicine, I will fail and have a hard time. If you can think parallel to a regular Anesthesiologist. They have to go through medical school which is 4 years. Then an internal medicine residency which may take 3 years. Then Anesthesia fellowship which can take a couple more years. By then, they are seasoned practitioners of Anesthesia. That doesn't mean CRNA school alone can not prepare a proper Nurse Anesthetist because they do. In fact, CRNA school is probably harder to most. However, I personally believe having a background in medicine will help. That's why I'm pursuing an FNP before a CRNA. With school aside, getting a CRNA position is not about the skills you acquire from school because every CRNA graduate will have similar skills. I'm guessing it will be more about the type of person you are. Are you a team player? How you deal with failure? How do you deal with stress? What do you do make the profession better? The journey you take to get to a destination tells a lot about you.
  3. The trick also worked for me! GOT THE INFAMOUS popup. And I Passed! I waited 2 weeks for my results to be posted because my school sent my transcripts late. I seriously thought I failed. My test shut off at 75 qs. Had a lot of medicine qs that i never heard of. and medicine incorporated in select all that apply. It was a nightmare. I thought I new nothing. It took me nearly 2 hours to finish 75 qs. I felt most of my answers were quesses. The qs i had a hard time on took the longest to answer, and I remember those questions word for word. 10 of them I checked later and sure enough I GOT THEM WRONG!. I was sure I failed. But now i think may be i didn't do so bad with the other qs. Don't forget that 15 are experimental and do not count! Im so lucky I passed. Good luck to all those like me who had to play the waiting game. The trickl alleviated some grief.
  4. Just found out that my school sent my transcript on July 08, 2009. It takes 2-5 business days to mail. And due to the high volumes of mail that the BRN receives, it may take up to 3 weeks for them to enter it in their system. So I'm going to wait, wait, and wait some more to know if I passed. You nurses who took the test in states with Quick Result service are lucky! At least you guys get closure as soon as 48 hours. I'm still nervously contemplating on my results on my test that shut off at 75 questions. I did the Pearson trick and got the pop up, but how reliable can it be. Isn't it over 80% of nurses who domestically went to school in the U.S. pass their NCLEX the first time. I know there are still people there that got the pop up and failed like a small percentage of people. SOME people who failed do not want to let the world know they failed. So the Pearson trick looks valid bc its mostly the people that Passed posted their results and the pearson trick worked. I know I would have LET THE WORLD know if I passed. But may not if I failed. I'm pessimistic, maybe because my school lagged and I have to wait...............sorry had to vent.
  5. I heard different. For the NCLEX-RN. u pass if you get 50% of the higher level questions or u fail if you get only 50% of the lower level questions right. The computer will assess your percentage of correct answers after 75 questions. and if it meets the above criteria to pass or fail it shuts off. remember its a computer adaptive test, so the more higher level questions you answer the better. and it deducts the 15 experimental questions because they dont affect your result.
  6. Apparently three of my classmates who took the boards earlier than me had transcript issues and had to request another copy to be sent to the Board of Registered Nursing. One of them took it straight to the BRN location in Sacramento just to be sure they received it. I will go and get another one sent to the BRN. I'll let u guys know if its good new once it's all resolved. I got the pop up via Pearson trick. Praying and crossing fingers!
  7. I don't have any unpaid fees and I know our grades were posted on early June....we can apply early in California. approximately 1 month before we graduate.
  8. I took my test July 04, 2009. Still no name on the BRN site. I did the Pearson trick and got the POP UP. I took the test in San Francisco, CA. California doesn't participate in the Quick Result Service. I've been so restless. So I called the BRN. The lisencing officer told me they do not have my transcript in their system either because my school didn't send it or it's still processing in their mailroom. Did anybody have any transcript issues. If so, what did you do about it. Should I request another transcript from my school. This sucks. And if any of you had transcript issues, did it delay your results for the test?? If you passed would ur name be still posted on the site as pending or not at all because you didn't have your transcript in. Any information is greatly appreciated!
  9. I hate this waiting. I took the test in California on July 4. I did the trick and I got the pop but, I don't completely trust it. Knowing Cali does not participate in the 48 hour Quick Results Service, I have to wait until my name is listed on the BRN site. Is there anyother way I can find out if I passed? My friend passed but didn't get her results after 2 weeks bc our school didn't send her transcript. but my other friend checked the BRN site that he passed exactly 3 days after he took his test. It's 3 days today for me. Still no name posted.Even for my classmate who took it a day earlier than me. She did the Pearson trick, and got a pop up too. Maybe it's different for everybody bc somebody from here who took it the same time as my classmate did on Jul 3 said that she/he seen their name from the site today. So.........We're still waiting. It's eating me up personally!
