So this is only my first semester in the program. I'm currently doing clinicals on a med/surg. I only have clinicals once a week and I wish I could do them more often. Everyday I finish I have a huge smile on my face and I just feel like I was born for this. I got to insert my first foley cath last Saturday. I also had to clean a couple of bm's but that doesn't bother me at all. Every clinical day I feel like I have made a difference. I see many posts where people question whether or not they picked the right major. Well, I know I did. Nursing owns.
It's funny because I was a polysci major with every intention of going to law school, but I applied to the nursing program just to see. Then..I got in. Now I can't imagine doing anything else. I love this job. I feel like I have a purpose and no one can take that away from me.
I too come home from clinicals the happiest i am all week. However, when I show up at clinicals I am a little less jovial, but thats because my clinicals start at 5:45.
Yippee! We need more enthusiastic nurses. Yes, I felt the same way. FINALLY, an outlet for my OCD tendencies and a chance to work with smart people who constantly challenge me. Very satisfying.
I'm so detail oriented and can't sit for long periods of time at all. Yes, I feel I was destined for nursing where these behaviours are looked upon as assets.
