I get a lot of mixed messages from staffers and have seen some nasty comments made to agency nurses by staff. I have also worked with some agency nurses who are quite a liability (gave heparin prior to a surgical procedure, another who literally nodded off while on the phone taking MD orders, another who would not offer help to anyone at all and was very rude to the CNA as well) so I am wondering from staff nurses your perception, horror stories etc. of registry, travellers, agency nurses. Thanks
Everyone prefers to work with a comfortable crew. People we know, respect, of similar background and experience, yada yada.... but...we don't get that all the time do we?I read a lot of 'shoulds' all over the BB recently...an agency nurse 'should' do this, or 'should' do that...but I think the bigger 'shouldworthy' question is...why can't more nurses behave as decent human beings to one another and look first at themselves...their OWN dysfunctional behavior... before pointing a finger accusingly at another nurse?
Until THAT question is remedied I doubt the nursing shortage will be solved. Whoever said on this BB the biggest enemy a nurse has is another nurse was right on. It is the saddest observation made and the truest.
Agree 100%.

As nurses we should like any nurse that is willing to come into the hospital and help out. Things are not easy in the profession right now. We need to keep the nurses we have, and treat them well.
