Do you think I need to appeal

Published

I completed the SEC, the required 4 courses in 2009. I wrote the CRNE and passed, but couldn't complete the 250 hours. I was having issues that prevented me from flying to BC. My file expired Feb., the 10th, 2013 and I've been told that I can update my file and paid the 560 CD. I didn't have any problem. However, two weeks ago, the 250 hours reference requirement has been cancelled. I think that logically my status should be converted into an RN (fully registered) since my file just recently expired.

I am afraid that I will go through the same process again. I filled out the update form and signed that I may been asked to go through the SEC again!!! I also need to apply for English proficiency test again as mine is expired. Do you think I can appeal? I want to be fully registered because the only outstanding requirement has been cancelled??

Thanks and Good Luck to you ALL...

What I mean is that they consider me as an RN and take the late fee for not renewing the registration!?

How can you logically convert into a RN if you haven't met requirements?

This is something you need to ask the college

Which requirements? The only remaining thing was the hours and it has been cancelled as of last week and no more a requirement for IEN.

Still something you need to ask the college but if they have told you just to pay your fees you should be ok. Are you still working as a nurse? Generally you have to declare you have done x amount of hours when renewing license.

Sounds like the OP is an astronaut. Want legal status in Canada but without actually living here.

If your file expired, you will have to bring it back up to date. Once your file is renewed, it's a bonus you no longer have to complete one of the requirements, because it has been removed. Your best bet is to keep in touch with the college and make sure all you paperwork is in order. Best of luck, I understand the process can be frustrating.

They asked me to fill out the updating form indicating that I agree to go through the SEC, if needed, and take the required courses based on the assessment. I have not worked as a nurse since I first applied. Instead, I am doing a masters in nursing in NS. This is why I was not able to complete the required hours. I will give them a call Tuesday and see what they suggest.

Thank you very much for your support. The frustration is that I may have to repeat the SEC, and to submit another English proficiency test. However, all what is happening is because of me. I completed all the requirements in just 4 months and passed the CRNE. Then I stuck with the hours because I moved from BC. I am returning back though in November and that is why I want to get it done.

My biggest fear is the English test. Even though my language skills are very good, and i don't have an accent when speaking, when it comes to tests, I feel tension and don't do as well as my real English. Is there any advice? You know they have increased the English passing scores

I understand you're concerned about repeating the SEC but I'd be more concerned about providing evidence of recent safe nursing practice, have you worked as a RN in the past 5 years?

My last practice as RN was in 2008 for 1600 hours!! Am I in the safe side?????

Sounds like you are on the safe side, best to phone CRNBC and ask.
