Do any of you think about going to med school?

Published

Long story short. A life incident inspired me to study to become someone in a medical field and I thought about becoming a surgeon but I underestimated myself too much and I chose nursing. I know that doing well with nursing school doesn't mean I will do well with med too school but becoming a surgeon has been on my mind all the time and I just can't help stop thinking about going to a med school.

Yeah I know and that's what makes me sad and regret my past. I always beat myself up for that.

If you really have "the fire in the belly" to be an MD, cut your losses and do it -- you're not going to be happy as an RN. Do you want to still be "beating (yourself) up" 30 years from now for not going what you really wanted to?

Hello RN to be...

I was 37 when I started looking into changing careers (from Accounting). Pre-med was my first path, but I quickly learned that Chemistry and I did not get along AT ALL. The more I tried to understand it, the more frustrated I got. So then I decided to switch to Nursing School. It is a decision I do not regret at all (besides the fact Med School was not for me). I discovered that I was more apt to spend more time with the patients, have first hand experiences in healing them, educating them, and be supportive. Not that MDs are not, but their job is different. They encompass a much larger number of patients, thus have less time to interact with them. Both positions carry a lot of responsibilities. You should choose what fits you best.

Best wishes!

No, but I know I won't want to be a BSN forever. I do plan to pursue past undergrad and become a NP. The school I plan to transfer to has a BSN to NP track that's always looked pretty tempting.

I used to want to become a medical doctor. Fresh out of high school. And later when I decided to earnestly pursue my nursing degree, I considered it again.

I found that nurses have a lot of autonomy (position and facility dependent) and that nurses spend more face time with pts than MDs.

I'm totally okay with working as an RN.

In the event I want more autonomy, I'll pursue my NP.

I thought about it, but I feel like I can do more and be more interactive as an RN and later an NP.

Yep but I decided becoming an NP & Biomed Scientist will be enough for me [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
