Do they round up GPA's and if so when?

Published

I'm confused by this. Do anyone know if they round up GPA's and if so when do they do it. My cousin and I are in an arguement. She is saying that they would consider a 3.17 GPA to b a 3.2 GPA because they would round it up if it is at least a 3.16 but I told her no a GPA of 3.17 is simply a GPA of 3.17 and they don't round up GPA's. So who is right?

They around the nearest whole point.

My school is weird. In order to be standardized, if you have an 84.4, that is still a C. If you have an 84.5, then they will round you up to an 85, which is a B.

Every school I have seen uses 2 decimal places for GPAs. I have never heard of GPAs being rounded beyond that point.

My school uses the two decimal point system, so my 3.69 stays where it is and won't be rounded to a 3.7!!!

My school doesn't round up either. They go to the hundredths also. I've never heard of rounding up, except in classes (never in GPA).

My school does not round GPAs. What you earned is what you get. In my program, passing is a 73 which is not the same as a 72.999. I personally have not experienced a school that does round up.

Thanks, I always thought the GPA did not round up but my cousin swears they do. I'm going to tell her this. I am also going to make sure she did not mean percentage points for class stuff like I know for fact that many instructors at my university will round up from say 91.6 percent to 92% which is an A.
