Do you prefer working at Hospitals or office, home settings, other??

I'm hopefully getting into the nursing program in the Spring, and my mind is FULL of so many questions. I know it's good to work at a hospital for a year or two at the minimum for experience, so I will do that. I did work as a CNA at a hospital on the Med/Surg unit for a while, so I got to sort of see what it was like. Did most or all of you start working at a hospital first and then changed to another job? What do or don't you like about working at a hospital? If you don't work at a hospital, could you please tell me what you do and if you like it or not? Thanks a bunch!!

i like the hospital better

i float as a cna right now till i get my lpn degree

i love the flexability and the angency pays more

and i can choose when i want to work or not

i dont like the nursing homes

i love old people they are sweet

but they always shove 20 or more patients on you

in one wing

they dont make time for the residents when they feed them

and i have seen alot of neglect in nursing homes

it very hard on your back as well

its also more stressfull i think

good luck with the nursing !

i worked as an MA in a clinic for 6 yrs before having to quit to do my FT of nursing school. i always thought that is what i wanted to do, swore i would go back, but now that i know my skills, and i am very good at them, i wouldnt want to lose that. the clinic setting of where i was was phone triage, an IV once in a blue moon, no autonomy at all. i wouldnt do a nrsg home, Pill pusher and thats about it from my experience.. i love the hospital... LOVE! i am very proud of what i do, and my skill level, and would never want to lose that. youwill just have to find your niche in the nrsg world. i dont know if i want tobe on this exact floor i am on now forever, but i am happy for an exteneded period of time.

you can pm me if you would like wit other questions.

gl! you wil get the clin experience in school, and get an idea of what you like and really super dont like at all.

You probably couldn't pay me enough to work in a hospital or nursing home and I never did. My first and only job so far has been in a clinic. I just don't want to work in those settings. Too much lifting in LTC & too much stress in acute care. Instead, I love working in the clinic. It can get boring at times, lots of swabbing throats during strep season, etc but every day is different. I get to work with trauma as well as the routine. Pay's not so good but the hours are really nice.

I think this depends on your schedule preferences and your families schedule. I personally like workin g the hospital but right now I work in outpatient surgery because of the nice M-F schedule..it pays less than the hospital but my hubby likes seeing me more..personally I liked it better working 3-4 12 hours day shifts per week..it also depends on what..you..like..I would suggest starting in the hospital
