It would really make you look bad for anyone who actually is an RN to see a studen put "RN" after their name. Plus, it's also technically illegal. When I was a student, I had my first name put on my Littmann (great choice!). It will work regardless of my educational, career or marital status.
You may be able to get away with putting RN after your name if you put a small sticker on it to cover it until such time as you have earned the title. I am considering this myself since I am buying a quality littman and my main title wont be changing much, even if I go further I will still be an RN
I skipped engraving and got a little plastic ID tag that goes on the part where the two ear pieces "come together" into the single tube (if that makes sense). Once you put the ID tag on it's pretty hard to take off (it's doable, but you have to sit there for a moment, which is nice because if someone runs off with it they can't just take it off)...I wrote my name on it. I figured I would wait until I get my RN to engrave my stethoscope.
My husband got me one this year and it has my name only on it. I'm currently an LPN, but am going to complete my RN soon in the future. If I so desire, I'll get the engravable name tag then, but not now if I was a student. Good luck and congrats (in advance) on your purchase of a quality scope.

Hi,
I'm about to buy my Littmann, and I am thinking about what I'd like to have engraved on it (from medisave). I'm just about to start my first semester, so I'm wondering what nursing students get engraved on their stethoscopes. I know that I'll use it for years to come. Do you just get your name on it, or do you put (RN) after it? I (in no way shape or form!) consider myself to be an RN, but I will be in 2 years. That's the ultimate goal, right? And I'll (hopefully) still have my stethoscope after those 2 years are done.
I just wouldn't want to **** anybody off who has already worked so hard for the title.
Just curious what other people do.
