My mother and I were discussing how much work she takes home as a teacher. Was wondering if same applied to nursing as I still am a student. I am refering to nurses who have fully completed schooling and not continuing education.
As far as actual paperwork, no I don't take much home. I am on a committee that sometimes requires me to use time at home to prepare inservices or handouts, but it's totally my choice to be on this committee and to be so active. Otherwise, I do read some journals and come to places like this message board, but again, it's my choice and I find it enjoyable so it doesn't stress me out or interfere with my family/friends time.
Now, if you're talking about emotionally taking work home with me, then that's a different story. To that, I'd have to say yes I do. It's nearly impossible to work with tiny, sick babies for weeks or months at a time and not worry about them when you're off. I'm not talking about worrying to the point of calling work everyday for an update or even going in on a day off - I'm just talking about being a little bummed and maybe needing to vent sometimes. I fall in love with my babies and their families. But honestly, the day I go home from work and DON'T worry about a very sick baby is the day I realize that I need to leave the NICU.
I do have some work that would fall under "take home" but I'm sure it's not on the level of what teachers do.
I have to take classes for my CEU's to keep my licenses up. Those are done online. But I do get paid for time I put in on them.
Also, because of my particular job, we get new clients, and often have some training in regards on these new clients.
I work from home to start with anyway. I try very hard to keep work separate from homelife. It can be diffucult at times. Because I work from home, at times I believe my employer thinks it's okay to call me at home at any time. It's not.
I don't want to hear from them on my day off or once I sign off for the day.
