So i'm thinking of applying to another state for work do i need to hold that states license before I apply? I'm in NYC all i know is that there's nothing nil for new grads which i'm soon to be stale grad .. a girl's gotta eat so now i'm considering other states.

Do i need to already hold that state's license before applying?

Any suggestions on which states to start looking?

In this tight hiring market on East Coast, many facilities will not even consider a candidate without an active license. Expect to take 2-3 months to obtain license in another state.

Technically: you do not need to have the license in order to apply to jobs.

Reality: you are a much weaker candidate w/o one. Employers don't know when or even for certain if you would be able to work for them as you're not licensed, whereas they know that that applicant already holding the license is eligible to work and could start a whole lot sooner than you could.

If you're asked "Do you have an active license for the state in which you are applying for?" question and you answer no, it is a one way ticket to never going to be seen land.

Some parts of Texas, namely the West and the border towns, may still have the welcome mat out...then again, it is West Texas. Breathtakingly beautiful, and that's all there is out there. Same for the borders.
