Im a US citizen and I took nursing in the Philippines,do i need to pass the local board exam first before i can take the nclex?..pls.help

Specializes in medical surgical nursing, MAN-MSN.

since you took your nursing here in philippines your are considered as foreign trained nurse. the requirments in applying for nclex-rn will depends on the state you intend to practice and you must meet their requirments before they will approve your application. since you are us citizen and not a dual citizen i guess you can make a letter of explanation why you do not have local license and that depends on the state your applying if they honor it and waive the need for a local license.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Depends on the state but may require a letter from the governing body stating you can not sit the exam

Big question would be if you hold dual citizenship or not and which state that you are planning to work in.

If dual citizenship, then you will need to write the any pass the NLE for any state that requires it of foreign trained nurses as you would not be exempt from the requirement.

CA requires it if dual citizen for example.
