Do you like your job?

Published

When I was in school, I could not wait to become a nurse. I was so excited because I thought I would just love my job. My question to all the nurses out there is Do you like your job? Why? What do you do if you don't?

My body can't take floor nursing anymore, even though I am in good shape for my age (58). Love patient care, talking with, teaching them, love solving the medical mystery of s/sx. Can not stand the amateur hour politics, backstabbing crap that goes on, piling on more and more mundane clerical work onto nurses who are stretched thin to begin with. I agree with the above posts. Some of the negatives associated with our profession won't change until it reaches critical mass.

I have my own life care planning and legal nursing business. I use the nursing process and nursing diagnosis every day even if I stay at my desk from 9 to, well, 9, though I do have occasion to evaluate people in person from time to time. I love it. I meet great people, learn new things all the time, and get to travel for work a bit. ::hi Ruby::

I am too old to want to work in my first career love, critical care, and my second career love, clinical instructing, and you couldn't pay me enough to work bedside again anyway because my knees wouldn't stand for it.

I also get to indulge my teaching jones on AllNurses, and I love that too.

I like that I have a Mon-Fri. 8am-4:30pm job with holidays off, I like that as a LPN I am incredibly blessed to have an office job, I like many of my co-workers and I love the residents. My body cannot handle full-time bedside nursing due to Fibromyalgia, a non-healing lower lumbar fracture, neuropathy, crushed nerve injuries in my legs, spondylolisthesis, and bulging discs. God has been so good to me as I have been able to work in an office setting for years now.

I don't like that I share a tiny, hot office with a nurse who is always cold haha! I don't like that I have no choice as to what we listen to on the radio in said office, I don't like how my work is nit-picked but hey, I chose to do the job! And I don't like how some of the other nurses treat newbies.

All that said, I LOVE the fact I have a job!! Thank you Lord!!
