Am I just getting old or what? When I started nursing we always taped foleys to patient's leg, or used a velcro device to keep from being pulled out. I never see it done anymore. Anyone know why? I'd appreciate any feedback because my director wants us to start at our hospital and I told her I hadn't seen it done in a long time. Thanks for your help...
If you are still wondering - try having a cath and then it is not strapped! Causes bladder or urethral spasms, may pull out and cause urethral damage or even cause injury to bladder neck - and you will be stuck with incontinence. Where I work it is one of the biggest sins against humanity! If the skin is frail try to use an occlusive dressing under the one you use to protect the skin.
Hope I was not too firm - very conscious of this problem as I have had the pleasure of not having it secured, noooot pleasant!

Well, I can tell you that I got in trouble last year with my clinical teacher because I forgot to do so. I'm a grad nurse now and I will always try too remember to do so. It's important too secure it . We use velcro device.

I always use the cath secure otherwise the pt c/o needing to void because the ballon is pulling on the bladder opening, but I dont like straight tape unless it is to traction, because there is not enough give,
