Hi All,
Just needed to work off some nervous energy...Was just offered a DAY (no night/weekend/holiday!) job and I am soooo conflicted. I currently work med/surg part time. This job is full time-outpatient mental health as well as case management for a community support program.
I LOVE my co-workers where I am now...In fact, I tear up at the thought of leaving them.
However, I love the thought of mental health. Loved it in school. Now that I have had over a year on the floor, tho, I find that I love being at the bedside as well. (Don't like crisis situations, but do love the variety that m/s offers.)
Not sure I want full-time status, either. My job right now is so flexible-If I need to request a day off, no problem.
So, I am going to go in and job shadow on Wednesday for a few hours to see what this new job would be like.
Sorry to ramble, but I am just so conflicted!!! (Plus, I'd be working more hours at less pay/hour, which doesn't really thrill me, but money isn't everything, right?)
Thanks for listening!

I would seriously consider staying at the job you have now, for 3 reasons:
Sometimes, co-workers that you REALLY, REALLY like are hard to come by. When you enjoy who you work with, it makes the shift go by more quickly, and you feel better about yourself and your job.
You mentioned that you like bedside nursing. There may come a time when you are really burnt out on bedside care, and that is when it is nice to find a new position, and a change of pace.
More hours, less pay??? Nope!
Good luck!! I am struggling with a job decision myself right now.

I agree completely. If you are still pretty happy where you are, stay! Don't discount the co-worker factor, and don't discount being able to have a flexible schedule.
Everybody wants 9-5 M-F but sometimes getting personal things done during that time is a real bear.

How nice for you to receive such an attractive offer. From listening to your post though, it doesn't sound like you're going to be leaving your current situation anytime soon. It's a blessing to have a nursing job that you really enjoy.
Thank you all for the kind thoughts and words.

Maybe there's a way you can satisfy both needs - if you decide to continue on where you are, perhaps you can do some per diem work in a mental health agency.
Best of luck to you!
