Do I need all my books for the first week? Just wondering because I just ordered some of them today. I am so worried I will be the only one who doesn't have her books...

oh, i don't think so. you'd be carrying 100# of books if you did! our first day we just brought our packets/pens/misc. items.

good luck on your first day!

I don't think you'll need all your books ever.....at least, not with you. You can leave them home if you want to. I took a book to class once I think. Most of our lecture came from power point presentations. I read the assignments before class (or tried to) or when I got home later. Having the book there was too distracting for me. I did better listening to the lecture and following along with the power point.

But as for PURCHASING them all before class, yes, that's probably a good idea.

If you might want to save some money on books, normally posted around school are books for sale from graduating seniors or people that left the program.

Which you can buy after the first day. My first day we went thru orientation and discussed our syllabus. Did not need my book at all.

Yes I do agree bringing your book to class can be slightly distracting, unless your instructor teaches straight from the text.

Good Luck and study hard.

Doubt it.....but keep them all in a crate or something in your car so you'll have them close by if you need them. :)

I love the idea about keeping the ones in the car that you don't need right then, but as I was reading thru my orientation handbook, it stated that ALL books must be brought to class. Our program is on the 3rd floor, and half the time the elevator is broke down, so depending on how much time I have between classes, I MAY have to take all of mine with me each day. :uhoh21:

I remember that two years ago when I first started, we received assignments at orientation (reading, etc) to be completed before the first day of class! I guess that's what you get for signing up for an accelerated BSN program...

In most cases we did not need our books for class. The professors told us ahead of time if they wanted us to bring them along.

My ADN program has also given us reading assignments and videos (from the CD-ROM's in the textbooks) to watch that need to be completed prior to the first day of class...as least I'm not the only one!:uhoh3:

Our program also requires quite a bit of work to be done before the first day of class--several modules that require reading from two of our textbooks--Fundamentals and Med Dosage...We have a big packet that needs to be completed based on that info...As soon as I finish my summer class (next week), I'm going to get busy on reading for fall semester! I'm so excited!
