Hello everyone! I have a question about nursing school applications regarding my GPA. I graduated with a Bachelors in History in 2010 with a 2.4 GPA. Essentially, on my first time through college, I grew lazy during my junior year and my grades dropped from A's and B's to D's and F's... despite this, I got my act together and still graduated.
After working for a few years, I decided that I need to do something more fullfilling with my life, and Nursing is something that I've always been interested in. I am currently in my 2nd semester of taking prereqs, and so far I have managed to get all A's, and am currently on track to get all A's this semester.
With all of that in mind, my question is, do I have a chance at actually getting into a BSN program with my GPA? I know my GPA from my first time through college is very poor, but I am now focused, and working to get all A's on my prereqs.
Thank you for your time!

If you have a 2.4 cum. Gpa that will hinder your application, no way to sugar coat that.
Getting all As in prereqs will be your glimpse of hope.. and acing any enterance exams/essays.
Also I should add this is not exactly something you should be asking a internet forum about. You should be asking your guidance councelor for specific info on your case. Most ppl are from different areas with different levels of competitiveness and requirements, so you will not get sound advice here beside, go see your guidance councelor asap (This should be a no brainer)

If you are trying to get into an ABSN program, then probably not, unless the school you apply to isnt very competitive. But, if you are "starting fresh" and just try to go the traditional route, you may not have to transfer your previous degree's transcript. You would need to ask the adviser at the school you want to apply to though, as the PP stated. Basically it will all come down to if the program you are looking at looks at cum GPA or just pre req GPA.

I would retake some classes in order to boost that GPA. Around here for the BSN you have to have a 3.0-4.0.
Good luck

Go and speak to the advisers at the school you are interested in. Just because you had a low GPA does not mean that you will never get into a nursing program. You may have to retake some classes or whatever else the adviser tells you to do, however, the main purpose of a GPA cutoff is to ensure you have the ability to complete the program and are capable of performing college level standards.
If you have the motivation, there is always a way to get what you want.
Best wishes!

I got my ABSN in 2006. When I was looking the absolute lowest GPA accepted I ever found accepted for applying was 2.8. I am not sure that is at every school, but that is the lowest I have seen. You could do a more traditional BSN program. I would say next time really focus on getting good grades. It will really help if you plan to get a graduate degree.

You'll have to check your school. My school, the lowest gpa to get accepted was a 3.33

My school had the lowest minimum requirement that I have seen at 2.5 GPA for my cohort, this summer cohort will need a 2.75 minimum. Most schools out there are 3.0 minimum. That number is irrelevant because if the program is competitive then the actual minimum accepted GPA will be in the 3.2- 3.4 range. If you had finished your first degree 10 yrs ago and work in the healthcare field, they may have made an exception. Just trying to be realistic and not give you false hopes if you are looking at ABSN programs.
