Do FL schools take NC credits?

Hi,

I'm a military wife and will be moving to florida soon and getting into school in florida hopefully pretty quickly. I was just wondering...do Florida colleges and universities take north carolina college credit hours? Also, what is the normal wait while trying to get into a nursing program there? I know they are probably all different, but any info would be great. Also, is there such a thing as an accelerated BSN program (in FL) with enough credits? I've got about 3 years of pre-req's. (Never could find out what I wanted to do! now I know.)

As long as the North Carolina school was regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges, the credits earned in NC should transfer anywhere in the United States. Regarding the transfer of college credit to other states, the regional accreditation is what matters.

Will they will accept your credits as long as they are coming from an accredited school? Yes. Will they accept ALL of your credits, as long as they are coming from an accredited school? Not necessarily. It depends on the school that you are transferring to. The private universities will be more willing to take all of your credits than the public ones.

If you are transferring into a Florida state college from any private school in the state or from any out of state college, their requirements are a little different. They are notorious for refusing to accept certain credits in math and the natural sciences because according to them, the coursework is not necessarily the same. And, if the credits are more than a certain number of years old they will require you to take them again. So, go to the FACTS.org website and research the school that you are planning to apply to, then call and speak to an admissions counselor about whether or not specific credits will transfer.

When I was in nursing school in Florida, I had a friend who had transferred into the program from a college in New York. And at the end of the program when we were getting ready to graduate, they audited her records and told her that she had to take microbiology and chemistry again. She fought them for months. But they prevented her from graduating with our class, and went into this whole thing about asking her old school to send information about the coursework, etc. It was all for nothing. She HAD to eventually take THEIR microbiology and chemistry classes to get her diploma.

I transfered courses from Fayetteville Technical Community College to Saint Petersburg College and Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences without any problems.

There is one accellerated program around here at USF in Tampa and they only accept people with a prior Bachelor's degree.

I transferred credits into USF's accelerated program from two different universities in Louisiana. They took every credit and I had no problem transferring prereqs as such. I also successfully petitioned them to accept my psych statistics course for the stat requirement once Tulane faxed over a course description for them. The only problem I had was that I had to take English 102, since the CON required 6 English credits and Tulane only had us take one "intensive" 4 credit course. You may have to jump through a few extra hoops, but as long as your school was accredited you shouldn't have any problem. Many of my classmates earned their first degree out of state.
