Do endorsed licenses show up any differently from a directly obtained license from the state?

Updated:   Published

Hi all,

I am a new grad and have registered to take the NCLEX and become licensed in PA. I have had a change of heart recently and want to practice in NYC. However, the application process in NYC is long and I don't want to risk my chances of getting a job in PA where it is less competitive.

I think it will seem odd to NYC employers that a new grad who is not yet licensed is planning to get registered in PA and *then* get her license endorsed in NY. If I write that I am applying directly to NY, will my endorsed license later on show that it is endorsed? Or will it look the same as a license that someone obtained by directly applying to NY? I just want to play it safe and maximize my chances in both places... thanks.

If it were me, I would tell them that I was initially licensed in PA and then endorsed to NY.  I don't know how whether your NY license would show that you endorsed it.  However, if a prospective employer verifies your license through Nursys your PA license, with the date it was issued will be reported as well.

Best wishes.

Thank you. I think I will just be upfront and say I was licensed in PA first.

Why would they care where you got your initial license from? All they care about is that you have a NY license. I got my initial license in Indiana and had interviews in NC and KY. Neither employer cared that I had an initial license in another state.

Yes, Nursys shows where your original license came from and where you endorsed to later. They can also figure based on dates licensure was granted.

Nobody cares, though. As long as you have a license in the state you will be practicing. The test is not any easier or harder depending on the state you take it in. You can be physically taking the exam in Las Vegas, for licensure in Connecticut.

Literally, they won't care, I promise.

Thank you so much ❤️
