Do employers not hire students?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

I was just wondering how lenient employers are on hiring students?

I myself am a college student (pre-nursing) and just recently got my CNA certification. I have applied for a couple positions at nursing homes and one of them told me that they cannot work around my school schedule ( i can only work thurs-sat), but they said if i had a more open/flexible schedule they would hire me because im young and a male -_-.

I just want to know if the majority of places are like this or not. Kinda getting bummed out :/

Hello,

I am a Male CNA / HHA, just graduated but i can't find a job. No one wants to hire a just graduate. I live here in Los Angeles. Does anyone know where i can apply for a job? Be it as CNA or HHA?

lol join the club

Your best bet for a flexible schedule that you can work around school is home health. Many employers don't want to hear, "But I have to work around my school schedule".

I see jobs for CNAs and HHAs on craigslist all the time. A major home health employer just ran an ad yesterday looking for CNAs.

Well presently i am taking this semester off..lol so if i can find anything i will fit myself in.

@ Caliotter3 I am always on CL but havent found any CNA/HHA agancy hiring just graduates.

Well, keep on trying. CNAs have to start somewhere too.

yea i know.Thnx...

so are u one of us?

I was once a CNA, but never had any problems getting a job, even though there were groups that employers preferred to hire. Now that I'm a nurse, getting and keeping a job is an entirely different story. Hardly anyone has an easy time of it nowadays.

yea...i know its kinda sux. I see u are only do u have any IM?

They do, but......be careful about accepting positions with set schedules. I was so excited to get hired that it never occurred to me that they wouldn't accommodate my schedule. I worked second and there was zero flexibility. All I got was "we know that you're in nursing school and it's great....but you have to leave class early so that you're not late for shifts."

Late for shifts = clocking in at 1503, btw

Once clinicals started, I knew there was no way it would work. Thankfully I found a job at another hospital that loves nursing students. All I have to do is give them a copy of my schedule and I'm good. There were times I didn't know my school schedule until a week before the work schedule started - 1 email to my manager and we worked it out. I

If you can't find an employer willing to do that, you can always work nights. It opens up your availability. Nights really aren't as bad as some people think, provided you get yourself on a sleeping schedule asap.

Good luck!

Thank you very much i wish u the best in your Nursing school.
