totally gross you out??? Can you clean them even though your tummy is turning flips??? Can't handle them at any cost??? Doesn't phaze you in the least. The mention that dentures grossed out another BB member in a different thread made this inquiring mind want to know, especially as it seems that so many nurses have an issue with dentures.....so please, tell this nutty nurse about how you feel in reference to dentures......:lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

That's OK, Untamed, I think it's funny too. I can deal with a trach that smells like my sons' dirty socks, clean up after a 90 YO lady who just puked vegetable soup all over the room, stick my fist into a Stage IV decub, and eat a hearty meal 5 minutes later.....but dentures? EEEEWWWW...

Ditto here...I actually have to wear a glove (or wrap it in a wash cloth) to remove and clean my own partial...but I have no qualms about it being in my mouth...just can't deal with it in my hand.

As for artificial eyes...nope...I don't do anything that has to do with eyeballs; real or artificial, other than drops. I had a patient many years ago who had some sort of rare & bizarre necrotizing occular nerve cancer. Surgeons had removed the eye and debrided the nerve tract and part of the sinuses. He never woke up from the surgery and lived only 72 hours post op. We had to pack it with wet gauze daily. It took an entire roll of kerlex. You could see it in the roof of his mouth. I tried to do it, I really did. I ended up telling my DON to fire me, I just couldn't do it.

mjl,

I thought of you and this thread yesterday as I scrubbed up a set of dentures for an 86 yr old man who was such a sweetie.......lol lol Thankfully these dentures weren't too bad.....:chuckle

Now kids-r-fun,

that is something that I can honestly say that just might be a difficult thing to do...(even as we speak, I am getting a queer little sensation i nmy throat right about where the adam's apple would be) Poor pt....what a terrible thing to happen.

Reminds me of the poor fellow with the sinus cancer who had to have half his face removed.......I posted this story on another thread, so won't repeat it here except to say that I struggled mightily NOT to throw up every time I had to swab out the cavity and spray it with water Q2hrs. like the MD had ordered. Even having a diabetic's ischemic toe fall off in my hand wasn't as gross as this {{shiver}}
