Do you live in Tulsa?? If so, I got into a nursing program in Muskogee at Bacone College right out of high school. I only did Comp 1 and Comp 2 at TCC and Nutrition. Then they accepted my high school biology and high school maths! ((I just wondered about the Tulsa thing because of TCC))

I strongly discourage you from going to DNI. Their reputation is not stellar, their costs are huge (it is a for profit school) and their credits are not transferable when it comes time to go for your RN (if you become an LVN) or for a BSN on up. You would have to start all over.

Look into the local two year ADN programs at the community colleges. They are excellent and so much cheaper it is ridiculous. Yes, entry is competitive, but not as bad as needing a pure 4.0.

thanks lilian 2010: i would go to Tulsa however i just recently had a baby. now my scheduling has gotten so much more complicated. If I was still single, i would definitely pack up and move out there if i was unable to get into any nursing schools down here.

RN2BDFW: you are absolutely right. but what if I do not get in? I've spoke to a couple of my friends who got accepted in the two year nursing school. It's very very competitive. I will of course study hard and hope I will be accepted. What other options do I have?

Well, you work hard so that you DO. :) It isn't as if you don't have control over that. You study hard in the pre-req's and you make the grades. There are several programs out there, so you apply to all of them. It makes a lot more sense to take your pre-req's at a community college at a reasonable price, one at a time if that is what it takes to have time to make the grades you need (I see you have a baby, which makes study time at a premium for you) and then apply. If you make the grades and do all the requirements for admission on time (immunizations, physical exam etc) and submit all the documentation, you will get in. We had over 400 applicants for 48 slots this past semester for the incoming class, but less than half of those even submitted everything they were supposed to.

Getting a 50K+ loan for an education you can get for less than 6K all the way through at the community college is not good stewardship of your funds. And going to nursing school at a school that is not accredited is just not smart.

Just work hard. You have complete control over this.

I agree....go to Community College so all of your hard work will be recognized. For one Community College your credits will be transferable to go on further in your career. Yes they are competitive but most schools are....remember if it were easy everyone would be doing it. I don't think you need a steller 4.0, work as a CNA if you can to show you're interested even if one day a week or on the weekend or even part time evenings...this shows your dedication to get into the program and will possibly go towards your point system they use. Also do all your pre req subjects and then apply. Chances are good you'll get in and if not the 1st time you will the 2nd time.

DO NOT GO TO DNI......I've heard too many horror stories. Its overpriced number 1 and two once you get in they have your money and if you don't do well they will drop you from the course and no refund. Its also very accelerated compared to college.

They are not accredited and have numerous complaints against them. Do you research on them.

ADVANTAGE to Community College, they care, less expensive, tutoring centers for free in the help center in college, accredited, etc etc

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH for this posting Texasboi. I was going to go apply to DNI this week bc I am an LVN wanting to bridge to RN ASAP. I took Chemistry in high school and can't seem to pass Statistics so that takes Collin College off my list. I was in the transition program at NCTC and did not pass the second semester and the overall experience was not the best, so I am back on the search. I am going to apply for El Centro's bridge program for Fall '11, but would LOVE a few other options.

Just FYI, the grades are important, but you do NOT have to have a 4.0... I didn't (TCC) and am starting in Jan (1st attempt). And the RNSG counselor said she honestly wishes those rumors would die. Yes, it's competitive. But your science grades basically count twice (as I understand it) and your TEAS results are just as important as your grades. I was NOT impressed with DNI, and their credits don't transfer to "regular" universities.

I looked into TCC and they don't have a TEAS test date any time soon. I have to check ATI again in January to see if they have posted new test dates. I checked Hill College, Navarro and Weatherford as well and will see if I can apply there.

TCC only offers TEAS tests during the registration periods. They should have the Fall registration stuff in Jan/Feb.
