Hi..I've been back & forth & back again wondering if signing with TCN is the best thing for me to do at this point in time..of course the no wait list, at your own pace on your time is very attractive..I'm a F/T employed LVN, single mother of 3 living in sunny OC, CA..well we have enjoyed some rain the last 3 days..our economy sucks & beautiful Cali Caliente is broke as a joke right now..I obviously can't afford to quit my job or cut my hours to P/T..I know TCN is just the middle man...how can I cut them out? Do I have to go through TCN to get into ISU? I've also read that going through TCN doesn't necessarily guarantee my acceptance to ISU..I believe that ISU is the only distance learning program accredited by the BRN & accepted in my state..I love the testing out idea...do I really need them to do this? I've only completed a couple of pre-reqs..if the nursing shortage is so bad, why does this have to be so complicated? All the traditional college nursing programs also make it very clear that you cannot work F/T and be in the nsg program..and suggest working no more than 15 hrs/wk...uh..reality check people...if anyone has any advise/answers...please help..:smackingf:confused:
Ohhh this site has been a blessing.
I too am from So. Cali and am desperately seeking independent routes to obtain my RN license. After being rejected from West Coast University's LVN to ADN bridge program due to financial reasons (a big private $47000 balance, on top of the approved $20000 loan from federal), I bowed my head and tried to seek comfort by researching the RN Board website for other approved fast-track/online schools. I found ISU. It was meant to be, or so I thought!
Researching led me to TCN, and that research was direct contact from ISU. So I met with the sales rep yesterday and I signed up. I had a gut feeling it was a little too sales-pitchy for my blood. I still signed on the dotted line, as earning a BSN while working FT sounded oh so good. Well, I figured I'd google "the college network complaints and rip offs" just to see what would come up. Not only did ripoffreport.com come up with sad sob stories that really didnt sway me away from TCN, but allnurses.com popped up as well with an uber amount of dedication to this ambiguous entity known as The CN.
You guys scared the buh-geez out of me. I just cancelled TCN (within the 3-day cancellation period, Good Lord, I even sent notice to the corporate in IN express mail + certified return receipt).
I am sad that I've burned another "seems the easier way across" bridge, but am hopeful that there is light to my RN dream sometime soon. I will be CLEPing my heart out, as I have no pre-reqs, but I'll be doing it alone without TCN thats for sure. Thanks for saving me the nightmare, I took all the advice on here to the head.
I will be an RN,
-Mike

Yep;
I DO agree with you; it is just so difficult breaking down those hug, high walls that seems to keep up where we are! I that MOST of the nursing programs here in CA will NOT take science credits from online classes...duh...even those they are not listed on a transcript as such. I am very close to just throwing in the towel; enjoying my life as it is; taking vacations and not worrying about school until such time as I have the funds and the time off to physically attend as these nursing schools dictate. I also hear it is almost impossible to attend a nursing program while having to work full time as we need to do.:angryfire
