  1. Thats what I think....a few of my RN friends are making just a little more than me....I know that RN license would open so many more doors though!!
  2. whoa...until I noticed your name I thought it was her. Thanks, but the 3rd nurse will actually be split between our CM & UM depts. I'm a UM nurse, and unless you've worked in my office with the current staff we have you can't criticize my actions. You see I'm going on four years there, a couple years ago we had a huge layoff & I was one of the four nurses they retained. My current mgr was not there at the time. One of our case mgrs left because of her & the other just left, so there were two. I was the only PA nurse reviewing 300+ referrals daily, after three months they brought this witch on, who by the way has burned most of her bridges in the local area. She then brought on one of her friends to help me, but it ended up being more work for me because she had no clue what she was doing, regardless of my numerous attempts to teach her, she finally left for another job, Thank you Jesus. They brought on another UM Nurse, but she has also not been much help, shes sweet, but shes slow, the other depts are constantly coming to me as are our providers because they do not want to deal with her, so my workload again increases. Oh I must've forgot to also mention, I do not take a lunch, nor do I take breaks, and I work 10-12 hour days M-F. Yes, I am very fortunate to have a job. Could I leave? Yeah, sure I could, but I choose to stay, because it is a place I once loved. And did I get my point across? Yes, I did. How could you say no one wins? The nurse that's coming on board happens to really hate her current job, so hopefully this will be a step up for her. Am I going to get help? Yes, I am. I've told them time & time again that we were short staffed especially since so many people are losing their jobs our current member enrollment has soared. Could I care less that you think my approach was obnoxious? Sure, of course. But, you know what? They got the point. Isn't it a shame that it finally took that obnoxious approach to wake someone up? Sometimes Leslie drastic times call for drastic measures, I guess you're blessed to not have to work with me. lol...but hey, this isn't a war between you & I. I was just a little bothered by your judgment of my actions, because after all who are we to judge, right Leslie? P.S. Thanks for your reply, its greatly appreciated, makes me a better person just to know what you think. And I'm sure you would've handled the situation the right way, thank you for being you & making this world we live in a better place, you're beautiful....
  3. Isn't there an age requirement? Where is this place they're hiring these children? And shouldn't they be reported? That's horrible & I totally understand what you mean!! I think majority of it comes from their insecurities, when they start feeling threatened by someone else's competence. Just hang in there!! Be the bigger better nurse & do what you gotta do. KARMA is a funny, evil thing & what comes around really does go around. Did he/she at least help your other patient before they ran off squealing? Maybe your charge nurse needs to re-assess the work load & give that person a couple more patients, I mean since they obviously have extra time on their hands to look for flaws & tattle. You're only one person & you can only do so much. Some days are going to be like that, the sun can't be shining, in the big, clear, bright, blue sky, while the beautiful birds are singing & soaring under the big. bright, beautiful rainbow everyday. What I'm trying to say is, there will be crazy hectic days, keep your head up & don't let them get you down!!:flwrhrts::dncgcpd::urck:
  4. My mgr is fairly new to our office. I work in managed health care. I'm a work-o-holic, always have been, never to kiss booty, hard work is just my nature. We have a couple of brown-nosing butt kissers in the office & I can't stand them! I've never liked my boss, because she's fake, she does not know how to communicate with people & we've lost a few good soldiers since she's been there. She's caused division w/in the office & depts are having a difficult time working together. Although I can't stand her, I always try to be cordial, we do work together & see each other daily. I always thought she liked me, but now I'm a little uncertain, since I blew up at her couple weeks ago:hlk:. Ha-Ha!! My dept works their behinds black & blue, while everyone else in the office has time to hang out & chat, taking two hour lunches, etc. It was a Friday & I was extremely busy, more than usual & I let her know that morning I was going to need help, which by the way is something I never do. By 4:30 that afternoon she came into our dept huffing & puffing & yelling about some paperwork she needed. My blood was boiling! She walked back into her office & I took the paperwork in there & threw it down on her desk & yelled, "there's your damn paperwork & don't lose it!" lol...she was ******, maybe even more so because, what I hadn't noticed was she was on the phone. I told her I had it, with that place & her, she told me to get my stuff & go home. Just to **** her off a little more I decided to stay & finish my work day. Come 5 pm, she passed me in the hallway as I was headed for the front door, she said, "I thought you were leaving", I replied, "why? because you told me to? nope, but its 5 & I'm outta here." Well, I still have my job & they've put in a request for a 3rd nurse in my dept, I just hope its not to replace me. LOL. We have a couple of weird mgrs there, they only say hi, when they feel like it, so just to make them feel uncomfortable, take them down a notch, & let a little air outta there big heads, I usually give them a big cheesy smile & hello, as we pass each other. I'll always say it first, its like going to the grocery store, you expect to be greeted when you get to the counter, its just good customer service & proper etiquette. I think its rude when you walk up & you're not greeted, like being at work & walking by someone you work with & not acknowledging the other person. Kill them with kindness!!! It always works! :msk::dncgcpd:
  5. When I met with the 1st TCN rep, I distinctly remember him saying the prgm would be completed in 4 yrs. I'm from Cali, where Excelsior was once an accredited nsg prgm. Say you do sign with TCN/ISU and w/in those 4 yrs CA drops them too. Does that mean you're SOL? Taking the contract to a lawyer prior to signing is a really good idea!! I started looking into the traditional local prgms again. Maybe my prayers will be answered & I'll win the lotto or find me a sugar daddy & be able to take the time off work to be a F/T student. LOL!! just kidding......:lol_hitti
  6. My apologies to all that have had a bad experience..Honestly, I feel guilty for learning from your mishaps...but, thank you for all your replies & posts, you've all been very helpful...and I don't think TCN will be hearing from me again...I've read some other positive posts about TCN, but it only takes a couple to share their misfortunes to confirm my worst doubts...
  7. Caliotter3....thank you...this advise does help & I knew I wouldn't have to go through TCN...I will definitely check this out!!! By the way, did you find someplace to do your clinicals? Was finding a place difficult?
  8. Hi..I've been back & forth & back again wondering if signing with TCN is the best thing for me to do at this point in time..of course the no wait list, at your own pace on your time is very attractive..I'm a F/T employed LVN, single mother of 3 living in sunny OC, CA..well we have enjoyed some rain the last 3 days..our economy sucks & beautiful Cali Caliente is broke as a joke right now..I obviously can't afford to quit my job or cut my hours to P/T..I know TCN is just the middle man...how can I cut them out? Do I have to go through TCN to get into ISU? I've also read that going through TCN doesn't necessarily guarantee my acceptance to ISU..I believe that ISU is the only distance learning program accredited by the BRN & accepted in my state..I love the testing out idea...do I really need them to do this? I've only completed a couple of pre-reqs..if the nursing shortage is so bad, why does this have to be so complicated? All the traditional college nursing programs also make it very clear that you cannot work F/T and be in the nsg program..and suggest working no more than 15 hrs/wk...uh..reality check people...if anyone has any advise/answers...please help..:smackingf:confused:
