Dismised from NAP-- Any chance of getting into another?

I was recently dimissed from NAP with just 9 mos remaining. I had few minor clinical errors (late x1 , airway difficulty but this cont with all team no one could intubate) anyone didactic grades were good. I was dismissed for missing case logs. Im sure it was PD and other crna finding a way to get rid of me:crying2:. I was yelled at from across rooms, told I had ADHD and many days of abuse. It is possible to return to this program but I think I would like to move on. Any tips on schools more open to dismissed students? Any strategies to look better to other school? Has anyone been dismissed and gotten into other program? How? Challenges?K

I think you need to reevaluate the things you were having trouble with in clinicals. It sounds like you were having trouble with more than one CRNA/anesthesia provider which usually indicates there is some kind of trend. I am not saying this to be mean, and I have no way to know what the whole story is.

You don't want to try to goto nurse anesthesia school and encounter the same problems though. If I were on the admissions committee the first thing I would want to know if student had been to another program is why they got released, and how they had addressed those problems in order to make them succeed in their new program. Saying that I was being picked on, or this student had the same problems, or the PD just didn't like me etc(I am not saying you're saying this, but I have heard these comments before) it is almost sure way never to get readmitted. It doesn't matter how true the statement is.

Thanks for the honest reply. I appreciate it, I want to know what I'm up against so that I can be prepared. I know that I will have to fight no matter what and the applicant pool is only getting stronger. Advice helpful

Hmmm, I dont think I would reapply to the same program. I would have know more about the situation and think on it.

Nursiepooh, you were so close like a few of us on here. Are you worried about the cost to go back? Starting all over, its so irriitating and frustrating. That has been one of my concerns is the cost. Its been a year I need to sell my books but can't bring myself to do it.

Yeah I can only imagine. Its been very hard going through each step such as getting RN job and taking classes to complate msn so I can't imagine selling books. I'm still holding out that I will be able to get in post masters program. I have known of some students that have been able to do so and are practicing crnas. I holding on to hope but if I have to get legal help it will become a problem. Good luck in whatever you do

Why would they count it against you for not getting a difficult intubation? And why where you missing case logs? Where there any 'lack of safety' issues that contributed to your dismissal?

Any news on anyone getting accepted after dismal? Please someone say yes!

This is tough to answer not knowing the whole story or having witnessed any of the issues....

My program will interview applicants that were dismissed from other programs, but you need to have a letter from your previous program saying you are eligible for re-entry. Also, you need to be prepared to discuss why you were dismissed in depth. The best answer you can give, in order to get a chance at entry, is to be honest about your skills and your part in the dismissal and your plan to change the qualities/attributes/skills that got you dismissed. Plan to be an open book about the situation. If you are fully honest and seem sincere, have truly evaluated yourself, your skills, and your part in the dismissal, they will consider your application. If the admissions committee just hears that you were picked on, you have no chance of getting in.

From what I've heard from admissions committees here though, it would probably be better if you went back to the program you were in that has offered you re-entry.

Misty anyway you can tell me where the program your are referring to is?

l am in the same shoes. l cant bring myselg to sell my books!!!!. lf only a school can open up and help those of us who really want to be in that profession, sacrified time and money invested to the tune of 100K plus and give us another chance with great preceptors not those who get a kick out of emotinally molesting you. l was over 40 and l cried almost every day leaving clinicals. l get drilled to the point of breakdown but my classmates are asked nothing (when we get together at lunch). Who will believe you are been singled out.
