So I had classroom orientation at my new job at a local hospital today and I was chatting with the group I was sitting with about excelsior's lpn to rn program. the HR manager was talking with us too and she said that a girl is graduating from there soon and they are "iffy" about the program because of the clinical aspect of it. I really want to do it, but what if they refuse to give me a job after i graduate! i guess I could always go to a different hospital, but I really want to continue to work there. grr. discouraging. maybe they should look into the school a little more before judging!! i think its a great idea!

I wouldn't let that stop me! You will have the license and nobody can take that away from you. Just go to another employer!

People judge because they don't understand and are judgemental. I have my EC degree and people see me for the good work that I do. I would not let that stop me from doing the program. Hang in there!

If you are sure you NEVER want to move that is fine. Several states do not issue licenses to Excellsior graduates. The program does not meet the educational standards set forth by their boards of nursing. Do your research and good luck.

The states with extra requirements are listed here:

There aren't too many states that will never issue licenses to EC grads, but there are a few. Most that have stipulations will allow RNs to endorse in after a certain amount of hours in another state.

CAs information isn't accurate. From what I got from Maria over at the BRN a few months ago, she said that there's no such thing as a case by case basis. If anybody else has different information that is more current please pass it on. Good Luck all

I started at a hospital in 2004 as a LPN. I mentioned the EC program and I was told that 3 nurses at this hospital had attempted the program and failed and that they would not recognize my degree from EC.

Well, the state BON where I live does recognize the degree from EC, so I persisted. I even left this hospital.

May 2007, I graduated from EC and was hired that day at the hospital that said they wouldn't recognize the degree. I passed NCLEX in 45 min with 75 questions. I am the main preceptor for our floor and I am consistently recognized for my performance by management.

Don't let anyone take away your dreams.

Try not to let all the negativity bother you...you only can do what is best for you...situations, people and laws change over time...anyway by the time you finish laws where you live might change completely...go for your goal..Best of wishes to you! :) Donna
