Discouraged

Published

I've applied to nursing school for two concurrent semesters now. The first time, I didn't even get an interview. The second time, I was invited to an interview and felt that I did well.

However, I also failed to get in this semester. I'm attempting to be admitted into a 2 year BSN program. I have a 3.5 GPA, and I scored well on the TEAS. However, I have no job experience in the medical field.

My college offers an Early Admission program, however, my counselor failed to mention this to me during my freshmen year. This program gurantees admission into the nursing program as long as a student commits to it their freshmen year and maintains a 3.0. They automatically get one of the 30 slots put aside for the Early Admission program. Note, this is 30 out of 60 total nursing school slots.

I'm at a loss for words after seeing the same exact letter saying that I didn't get in. You would think that they might possibly tell you why you're not good enough for them if you made it to the interview.

I'm sorry, maybe I'm just venting, but I'm just extremely discouraged in my academic career now. It seems like I try so hard for nothing.

Hang in there!!! I've been turned down too, and all I can do is keep my fingers crossed and keep trying. Maybe look into other schools/types of programs? LPN/ADN/etc. Good luck, you can do it. Keep your chin up and keep trying!:heartbeat*Hugs*

Sign up to volunteer at a local hospital so that you'll be able to say that you have health care experience for your next application(s). Be sure to tell the volunteer coordinator why you want to volunteer so that they can match you with something that involves patient contact.

Hello "Discouraged".

I have also been turned down before. I know the feeling you are going through. I applied to an accelerated BSN program last January and didn't make it. :crying2: There were over 1,000 applicants for 40 seats. I knew it was highly competitive but I thought I had a good chance but I guess I didn't.I was crushed, I don't deal with rejection well.

I have a 3.8 GPA in my undergrad and I graduated Summa Cum Laude. I have done occasional health related internships over the years.

I am back again, applying to several different schools this time around. Try not to put all your eggs in one basket and Please DON'T GIVE UP. What about a career as a Physician's assistant? It is practically the same job as a nurse practitioner. It might even actually pay more. I will take this route if things don't work out for me this time around.

Good luck to you.

have you ever considered relocating?

a 3.5 and a good teas seems good to me!!!

maybe the competition is too agressive in your area!

i got it with a 4.0 and a high score on the net,

but here in florida you see people getting in with 3.4 gpa and high 70's on net!

Thank you everyone, for your words of encouragement and support.

I was actually considering entering the Physician's Assistant program, but I need an undergrad degree to apply. I figured that nursing would be a great undergrad to have, as it's a versatile degree and a fall back if I don't get into PA school. But the kink in my plan is that I haven't gotten into nursing school yet :banghead:.

Also, this school is one of 3 options for the BSN in my area. One I would have to move for ($$$$) and the other I can't afford (private school).

I've gotten my emotions under control and am no longer too lethargic :D.

I have to submit my next application for Fall 09' before Feb 1, 2009. So, I plan to get a job as a Pharm tech. or Phlebotomist and work full time for a semester. Hopefuly I get in... 3rd times the charm right?

I am happy that you are feeling much better. :) It seems as though you have established a great plan for success. I hope everything works out for you. Good Luck.

Good Luck to you and don't get discouraged:nuke: I am waiting for a couple of acceptance letters as well. Hey, If I don't get in ...I will keep trying until I drop dead:bugeyes:
