Hi everyone..I'm a new nursing grad. Graduated in May 2010. I've been feeling discouraged lately because I can't seem to find a job and I've been looking for over 8 months now. I am so frustrated and depressed at times. I've applied for lower level positions but they won't hire me because i have an RN license. I am constantly on-line everyday sending out resumes...I live in Honolulu, Hawaii where they call it paradise but it ain't so for me.. I need some encouragement:confused:. Anyone out there feel the same?

I'm sorry to hear that...I am in the same boat as you. I got my license in April 2010, and I haven't landed a job as a nurse yet.
Just like you, I have applied everywhere. I don't mind relocating, so I even applied to places away from home. I also tried volunteering at a hospital ,but since I have my RN license, the won't let me (my guess is hospital's liability??)
I know it is hard, but pleaso don't give up if nursing is what you really wanna do. Just remember that good things happen, and one day you'll look back and be grateful you waited to accoplish your dream.
Hang in there, we'll find a job!

Hi HCC2010-
Welcome to our AllNurses forum! We are glad to have you here!!
I"m sorry for what you are going through trying to find a job. The market is definitely competitive, to say the least. Have you thought about working at a long term care facility? It seems like there are more jobs for LTCS than for hospitals, etc. It would hurt to network with people you may have met through nursing school, etc. Professors, other nurses, etc.
Don't give up! You may not find the 'perfect' job but I have faith that you will find something to get you started. and who knows, you may love it!!
All the best,
Diane, RN

And thousands more graduate RN's are about to hit the job market in a couple months and so many from last year(s) are still yet to find employment. What is wrong with this picture?

I know just how you feel...Im in the same boat...graduated in May 2010. I almost feel like maybe Im not supposed to be an RN? Sounds hard to believe but Ive applied to over 300 jobs and I hear the same thing over and over. Just plain discouraging!! Dont know what to do and I see posts on here by some nurses who think we are being picky..etc. Hardly, I have even applied as a CNA if you can believe that....
