Warning! Long rant ahead.
I just got the letter. The letter that denies me my appeal. I'll explain.
I took a course at my local CC and my roommates kept me up til three am the night before my paper was due for this class and I overslept. The teacher said I wouldn't pass this class if I couldn't get it in and she got the go ahead from the dept head for me to get it turned in. Once again my roommates kept me up yelling. Screaming. Crazy drunken stuff. Had nowhere else to sleep and I didn't think to go to my car. And no, couldn't go anywhere else. Suffice it to say I missed class again. So I just didn't go to class anymore since there was no way to turn in the paper. I got an F in the class. I ended up moving to Indiana and going to school there finally to start prereqs for nursing. I couldn't do any more schooling in Illinois because my job wouldn't let me go to school so I had to move to find a job. I went and completed ALL required nursing prereqs for nursing. Finally I have moved back to my hometown as planned and transferred my credits and excited to apply to nursing program only to find out all the classes that transferred over? Don't count for my GPA. So my GPA is 0. So I tried to appeal the GPA requirement as I had a 3.2 GPA at other school, it's the only thing stopping me from applying, and it was FOUR years ago. Just got the letter saying their denying it.
I am just so grieved. I signed up for that stupid class to replace the f as a backup so if I can get accepted for next time I'll be able to start in the fall. But I have to wait a whole other year! And in the mean time I have to take 6 credit hours a semester because to take these classes I had to take a loan out. So I'm stuck taking nonsense classes. I'm just so fed up. And mad. And sad. And just. Ugh. I don't know what to do any more other than vent on here.
Any other stories of how you struggled for so long but finally made it into the nursing program?

Why did you miss class both times? I would have gone even if i was tired. You need to take responsibility, not blame everything on others. i have worked 12hour shifts several times on no/little sleep. The position you are in is your own fault.

I did something similar to this my first go around at community college in 2006. I think I just stopped going to class because well, as a 17 year old that's what you naturally want to do. I had two F's on my transcript but I ended up just retaking them once I had decided on nursing and went back to school in 2012.
I'm applying to nursing school now, it did affect my GPA since the particular BSN program I plan to attend does factor in all attempted credits. I briefly explained this in my essay and hope that the admissions board understands that mistakes are made. The best thing to do is take full responsibility for what happened and learn from the mistake. Sometimes things don't go our way and we have to find something positive to take away from that experience.
This lesson helped me, maybe it can help you too!

And my roommates were screaming and fighting with each other until like four in the morning. And I had no other place to try and sleep.

Good luck to you!
Thanks! Nothing I could really have done at the time. We'll if I was thinking, I would have taken that stupid class over again right away. I don't think I could attend the next semester because that's when I got the job that wouldn't let me go to school. I dunno. Just sucks. Just had to vent. Had to get it out. When do you find out if you get into the program?
Applications are due Sept. 14th, so I'd imagine, some time in November? Seems if I'm going on previous application cycles that's about the time. Can't wait!

You won't grow until you take full responsibility. If your heart was in it, you could have finished that paper. If you are going to cram and finish the paper the night before it's due, at least find a place where you can work all night without distraction. Most responsible people would have finished the paper a few days before the due date.
If I were the teacher, you wouldn't be so lucky because I wouldn't even bother going to the department head. If I were the admission officer reading your appeal with this kind of explanation I would immediately reject it. In the real world, unless the sky fell or a bomb goes off, you make your deadline.
Sorry to be blunt, but your situation is hardly disappointing nor sad. People go through much harder times each day and achieve great things. All that blaming and negative talk just make you sound like a whiner.
Admit your mistakes, learn from it, and move on.
Dude has a good point. If this paper was so important why were you just doing it the night before? If you knew you had loud disruptive room mates why did you do it twice in a row?

While I agree with the previous posters I'm guessing you've gotten the message by now so I won't lecture (though maybe next time you'll consider taking a "W" before getting stuck with an F on your transcript). Seeing a "0" next to your GPA must have been HORRIFYING - I've had nightmares along the same lines - so I can understand how upset you must be. I'm not sure what your financial aid situation is but are there any other schools you could attend that would either average your past grades or give you a clean slate? (If your last appeal has been denied it doesn't seem like your current school's nursing program is going to be an option anyway.) Maybe instead of taking "nonsense classes" you could knock out the prerequisites for BSN programs and then try to go that route? Sorry, the situation sucks; just try to learn what you can from past mistakes and then forge ahead with Plan B. Good luck! :)

I didn't do it the night before. I had it done way in time. Having the paper done wasn't the issue at all. And they were erratic. I had no way of knowing when they would get in fights like that. And even if I did. I had nowhere else to sleep. I didn't know what else to do. Maybe I should have stayed up all night To go in to turn the paper in. Who knows. I wasn't trying to put blame on anyone else or not take responsibility. I was just venting I'll have to wait another year to apply to the program, because of something so long ago and that it stinks. That's all I meant by my post to begin with.

I don't even remember why the paper counted for so much because it was so log ago. I don't have any other schools to apply to. I just have to retake the class that i got an f in and wait for next year to apply, which i start this monday. I signed up for it when the advisor told me that it had set my gpa to 0 as a backup if they didn't approve my appeal. They only start nursing program spring and fall. So now I have to wait to apply for next fall. Yes it does suck. I've never had to drop a class or gotten an f before or since then. I honestly forgot about the class because it was so long ago. I didn't know I wanted to be an RN then so it was easy to blow off and forget. You live and learn though. That is for sure.
