Direct Entry MSN 2020 at Columbia University

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone, The applications for June 2020 at Columbia University has now opened. I haven't seen any new threads for this year so I wanted to start one. I am in the process of applying and half way done! References already sent their recommendations!! and an upside to this year is that Columbia University is no longer requiring the GRE. SO I am pretty happy about that!!

Good Luck!

Hi everyone,

I'm so happy, I'm not the only one that is freaking out about this process. I applied for the MDE program. Does anyone know how many students the program accepts? I'm so worried my GPA is not the greatest but i feel confident in all other areas. I'M FREAKING OUT! Thanks guys!

I think around 200. No worries, it’s a holistic process. I’m sure we’ll be fine. I would advise going to one of their open houses. They’re very transparent and informative.

Thank you so much for your help. ?

Hi, does anyone know if the October 15th deadline means that the application closes going from October 14th once the clock goes from 11:59pm to 12:00am October 15th or if it means that it closes on October 15th at 11:59pm? I am only asking because I have everything completed for my application but one recommendation hasn’t been submitted yet. I have tried to reach out to the professor several times, since they agreed to write the recommendation over a month ago. I went to his office and he said he likes to work up to the deadline, which makes me anxious because that is very risky. I have an alternate recommendation lined up I just want to give my original recommender the benefit of the doubt. Columbia is my dream school and it would really suck if the reason I get denied is because one professor doesn’t submit their recommendation on time. I am trying to have patience and trust in this professor though.

Hi! Submit your application. I believe you can still add/ change recommenders even after submitting! Hope this helps.

Okay! I will! I was thinking if worst comes to worst I will just call admissions and get help to change the recommender if I need too.

They said they will give ur recommender 2 weeks after the deadline. After that they will ask you to ask someone else. They said this at the open house. BUT keep in mind ur application won’t go to the next step without all the recommendations. The only thing they let go is if you don’t have all ur transcripts yet.

Does anyone know if there's a time limit for the video?

Good luck, everyone! It took me forever to get through all the parts of this application. I do appreciate that they want to know this stuff about their candidates, though.

Which other schools are you all applying to? I'm halfway through my Philips School of Nursing application, and will also be applying for candidacy at my community college's program (mostly due to financial concerns -- I love the idea of Columbia's program, but yikes the $$).

Same! It was a lot of information they wanted.

Well, my GPA is not that great so it's hard to apply to a lot of schools. I'm from LA but now i live in the bay are but applied to Glendale community college. It's in LA. It's an AA program which I'm not so excited about. I really want to get into Columbia. I love that they don't just look at GPA but they look at everything. The program sounds amazing as well. My main concern right now is not getting in. :( But I'm trying to stay positive. :)) Hope we all get in! ;)

Good luck, erikaj28! When I attended the Columbia open house, I think I heard they take about a third of the candidates that apply. I don't recall anyone mentioning firm GPA rules... they seemed very interested in the holistic picture. Seemed like an interesting mix of people from lots of backgrounds at the open house, too.
