Diploma Trained Nurse?

What is a diploma trained nurse? I was reading here that a diploma trained nurse is better, but what is the difference.

It's a 3 year hospital based program. Mine was 1 year academics in a community college and 2 years clinicals. I don't think there are many of these around anymore. Mostly 2 and 4 year programs.

Many diploma programs still going strong in my area ... I can think of 7 within a 50-mile radius. :)

The program I graduated from last year was 2 years, straight through.
