Differences between RN, CNA, LPN, etc.

Published

I'm re-surfing in Allnurses (I stoped for a while) and there's a question I've tried to solve but couldn´t. What does RN, CNA, LPN, MB, BSN, PCTand MSN means? What are the main differences? What does one do that the other doesn't? :uhoh3:

By the way, in nursing schools do you specialize in an area during the first learning period or is it only after working for some time?

P.S.: Well, I know RN stands for Registerd Nurse. I'm not a complete ignorant... :p

Excuse me and no offense meant, but WHY do we waste our time answering these questions like the ones above.

To the poster who posted the above.....you have a computer and the knowledge to look up what you asked. Come back when youhave some valid questions.

You may nor have noticed, but I did use a computer to look up for answers. And since I got them, I reached my objective, so... Who's wasted time? :chuckle

CNA: Certified *** Wiper.

:o

They deserve respect.....

I think we (myself included) need to remember: Not everyone who comes new here knows that these questions are asked frequently on the boards.

Perhaps, the mods/Brian can set up a forum for "frequently asked questions/debates" such as:

BSN versus ADN

LPN versus RN

Definitions of various roles/educational requirments in health care (e.g nursing, PT, CNA, CMA, etc)

Union versus Non union work environments

How will I know if Passed NCLEX/how soon will I find out?

Is online education equal to traditional route?

International nurse recruitment pro's versus con's.....

etc....

and other such things....perhaps links to past threads could be posted there. It may be helpful for EVERYONE, including new members. Just my suggestion.

That is a very good suggestion. It would make it easier for the new folks to get the information they are looking for and would help organize the forum.

It would also help cut down on the number of flaming hot threads that get started and end up getting shut down.... :angryfire

well mods, what say you???

and is anyone willing to sticky the thread in OB for new members???

GOSH if you do not like the question go to another area of the board no need to be nasty to people. I really like coming to this board but sometimes when people answer others so nasty it really bothers me since it is not necessary and I really think its offensive

It really gives a bad impression

If you have nothing good to say go some where else and let people who want to answer the question answer and occupy yourself in something else instead of insults.

Person from portugal I hope you do not think that one person represents everyone here at the board

Take care

Angela

PS To show no question is a wast of time. This question not only informed other visitors of this information but also lead to some information on how someone can become a PCT and explained the difference between the CNA and PCT which I am sure is helpful to people researching this. Thanks again portugal and nice meeting you

:stone I AGREE WITH ANGELA. SOME OF THE REMARKS AND RUDE RESPONSES THAT SOME PEOPLE POST, NOT ONLY OFFEND OTHERS, BUT MAKES THE REST OF US THINK MORE THAN 3 TIMES ABOUT ASKING ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR PUTTING UP A POST IN THE FUTURE.

IF YOU HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF TWICE ABOUT AN ANSWER MAYBE IS BEST YOU NOT POST IT :)
