Didn't Get In To Nursing School?

Published

Hi all! I'm looking for some advice. I just got rejected from nursing school. I have a 3.9 GPA (one B in my GE's and the rest are A's), I scored a 94 on my TEAS and have volunteer experience plus those "life experience" points. I have over 10 years of foreign language studies (German), but they won't count it because it's not considered by the Chancellors office to be "beneficial". At this point, the only thing I can do to bring up my points on my application is to go through a CNA program, but I won't be certified in time to submit it for the next application period so I would end up waiting another year just to apply. Any suggestions?

I know that they gave priority to students with prior degrees so I know several people that got in with lower grades, lower TEAS scores and no work experience but they had those extra points for a prior degree. I'm planning on reapplying in August to every school I can and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's not as competitive as this application cycle was. At this point, there really isn't anything I can do to increase my points. None of the schools here allow for personal statements or letters of recommendation either so there's no way to personalize your application.

sometimes they reject students for mistakes on the application, or for even missing an item that goes along with the application.(ex: your transcripts arrived late) I honestly can't see why you we not accepted! your grades and scores are amazing ! dont give up :)

I don't think it is a matter of you not having the right grades, credentials, etc to get in. You sound like an incredibly competitive candidate. It may be there were so many applicants who had just as good credentials as you and they had to use some form of selection to take them.

Schools in my area are saturated with extremely well qualified candidates and many don't get in first try, the schools in my area then took into consideration who applied first, the applicants get their applications time stamped and whoever has best credentials AND applied first they took. May just be a matter of biding your time. Meeting with an advisor to discuss why you didn't get in couldn't hurt but sounds like you are a model candidate in a sea of good candidates. I wish you luck and hope you get in next round.

I have heard this a lot of times during information sessions for different nursing programs. You can check your application and read through it word per word, to see if there was anything you mislabeled or check the due dates like the other poster commented.

You can also check in with a counselor for those colleges and see if they can meet with you, bring your finished application form, teas grade, transcripts, and other documents that can back up all your other "points"

Hopefully it was just a mistake, but having 3 colleges reject you, it sounds like maybe you have a common name and then maybe another person with the same name is a convict or something.

It could also be that your area is saturated with perfect candidates. I have heard of a counselor turning away people because those prospective students had less than 3.5 GPA, and then having 98% of the admitted nursing students graduating as cum laude, .
