I really want to be in the medical field. I've thought about becoming a nurse, but I really think I would hate settling for it. My life's dream is to become a doctor. Ive been in the hospital before and they seem to get all the glory and respect from everyone around them and make all the decisions. I also really want to make good money and have a great lifestyle like they do. However, i'm scared about how long i'll have to be in school and how competitive medical school is. I'm thinking I should just go into nursing and see how I like the medical field first. I know it will be terrible pay and cleaning up poop all day. That scares me. I don't want to be some doctor's helper and be belittled all day, as well as being poor. Have any of you first went into nursing, then onto medical school?? Any suggestions? I'm really at a crossroads here.
The more I think about it, the more I really think someone is just being a jerk and trying to make us mad. Seriously, you would have to live in a box to think that nurses are poor, and why else imply that nurses are doctor's little slaves? I think it's just someone being really immature.

I'm surprised that more people haven't reached this conclusion. This post screams TROLL especially in light of the going all the way thread.

I know quite a few people who have started in nursing, and gone on to be Nurse Practicioners. I know one who is going to medical school. More power to them, but I am happy being a nurse. I have the utmost respect for what doctors do, and for what nurses do. I am a pediatric nurse. I make important decisions every day. My patients are totally unimpressed with where I went to school, what my salary is, and how much "glory" I get at work. They just care that I treat them well. I make a good salary. I don't let anyone talk down to me, and people very rarely try to do so. Doctors and patients for the most part "get" that nursing is an essential job. Procedures and diagnosis are interesting, but nowhere near as interesting or engaging as the kids and families I work with. I do clean up poop.... And I try to do a good job at that, too... I don't think you need to "settle" for nursing, but I can't think of a better way to really learn what medicine is about.
