HI!

I did a poll, and it seemed many nurses have worked full time while going to nursing school. If you did, I'd like to get some feedback and experiences on that. Please, tell me your stories, experiences, etc..

THANK YOU!!! :D

I'm currently going to school(one credit short of full time), and I work 40-45 hours per week. I'm married without any children.. I have a very supportive husband that will clean, and cook necessary meals. I also have a great job, which allows me too have a flexable schedule. I'm going into my second semester, and intend to continue working full time. I do anticipate having to use vacation time during the third semester. It's not easy, but you just do it. There are days when I'm working and at clinical, and they can be 17 hour days. I did this last semester, and I had B's in all my classes(normally I am an A student, so It was hard to accept that). However, not one person in the day and evening class received an A. If you want something bad enough, you make it work. Now when I just work and have time off from school, I feel like I'm on vacation. You also feel great about yourself, because you can accomplish doing it all..

Specializes in LTC, Alzheimers, hospice.

Not only did I work full time while in the LPN program. I also went through a separation from hubby which made me a single mom of two (ages 10 & 6), then I had a Thyroidectomy, but without skipping abeat after my recupertion I jump right back in repeating the semester, all the time working full time.

Until this semester (my 4th and last!!!), I work between 30 - 40 hours a week in my "other" job. I just did a lot of going to be early and waking at 2, 3 or 4 in the morning to read or study. Luckily, I do not have children, pet or a significant other to care for. I don't think I could have worked as much if I had those other responsibilities.

This semester, I finally borrowed enough money so that I only have to work one day a week. I now don't know what to do with all of the "free" time. :roll

I worked full time as clinical coordinator and surg tech during ADN program. Full time as staff nurse during BSN. Now full time in grad school. It can be done.

I worked part time while in school but my nursing program was too demanding...I never could have worked FT and succeeded.

Kudos to those who have....we do what we have to and I'm glad I did not have to....I took out student loans for tuition and room and board, and only worked for my pocket $$$.

I read here that lots of moms and second career nursing students DO work FT while in school...I admire your tenacity...it will serve you well in nursing. ;)

all text i worked full time 11-7 during my bsn program. between classes and clinicals, i lived on 3-4 hours sleep for the last 2 years of my program. i had a husband who occasionally helped out, and two stepkids there 5 days a week; a house, large lawn, 2 dogs, etc. you do what you have to do to get through it....i was determined to complete my education and get a better career and income. i could not afford to work part-time or not at all. it really bugs me when students complain that they are too tired when they are young, single and live at home and have minimal expenses.in the real world, most people have to have an income, even if they want to go to school. i ended up getting spliitting with my husband just before my junior year, so it was even more important that i had a regular income.

You guys are ALL so inspirational!!!!!!! :) THANK YOU!! I thought I may have to quit my job, which I didn't want to do because I make pretty good money and it's low stress and flexible.. I would love to be a CNA while going to school, but I hear it doesn't pay much.... I can't even believe that, but anyway, thank you all! And way to go to all of you!
