Hi, i have the highest avg in my nursing classes and pinning ceremony is coming up and it just crossed my mind that i may have to give a speach in which i completely dread thinking of it. Did any of you have to give a speech at your pinning ceremony?

hopefully it would be only if you wanted to. Our class had nominations for speaker (not based on GPA) and then they asked all of those nominated if they would like to speak. only those that were willing were put on the ballot. I was nominated but did not chose to be on the list of potential speakers as I did not have any desire to speak. I did not want the added stress of speaking and preparing a speech while studying for finals.

I spoke at mine. I felt it was an honor. However, I grew up in 4-H where talking in front of people was routine, it honestly made me not mind doing it all. Don't do anything you don't want to.... but if you do..... speak from the heart, keep it short and thank everyone.

I spoke at my LPN pinning ceremony 9 years ago. I was excited, anxious and nervous about the speech. I wrote it myself and the director read over it to make sure everything looked okay. It was a great experience actually. The only bad part was what happened just before I had to walk to the podium. Keep in mind that my classmates and I were all teenagers because this was a vo-tech high school. Well, I was sitting next to one of my friends on stage and when my name was announced and I stood to walk to the podium, she began to make fart noises with every step I took. My classmates and I were the only ones that could here her, but I nearly busted out laughing once I got to the podium as she continued her fart noises. It was hilarious at the time, although immature, but I'll never forget it.

Our nursing class votes on someone who wants to speak at our ceremony. It is only going to be a 5 - 10 minute speech, and there is only one person who wants to do it... so it goes to him.

I was privileged to be asked to speak at my pinning. It was a real honor as the faculty decides who they ask. I was also asked to be one of the 2 student speakers at graduation for our college. Cool! I got to sit on stage with the faculty.
I'm sure that if you are asked & don't feel comfortable doing it, you can turn it down.

It would be an honor to do so, and if I'd been asked, I probably would've GONE to my pinning! lol As it was, we only got 2 tickets to pinning and 3 to graduation. I have 4 kids and my parents and boyfriend (now fiance) so I gave my tickets to others who could use them. I didn't want to decide who could come and who couldn't, so I didn't attend, and that was the end of it! lol

Off topic---Woohoo Go 4-H!!! I love Ag.
Back on---I've never been to a pinning ceremony yet, but I have given speeches before.
Anyways I agree with Jetsetter that if you do have, or feel like you would want to give a speech, short and from the heart is the way to go!!!
Don't stress out, everyone gets nervous before a speech.
