Did you get a studyguide for the final?

Fellow sufferers,

I was suprised to discover that the final, which is comprehensive covering 25 classes over 4 months, has no study guide. I've never taken a class before that had this policy. I think it's ridiculous, but that's pretty much what I thought of the rest of the course. They seem to have sort of made it up as they went along, so I don't think they really considered whether they would need one.

The final won't affect my grade anyway, in fact I'm considering not continuing with nursing at all and concentrating on a medical field, but still I think this is odd to expect students to review 25 classes without knowing what to concentrate on.

I wonder if this isn't a symptom of a program that's outside the norm. Maybe the reason I hate the curicculum so much in nursing is because these are not normal classes.

These sure aren't normal guidelines.

How's your final structured?

A study guide????! oh yeah, thats funny. No really, I needed a laugh. :roll We didn't do a review either. But I guess it's like Gator said, we ain't gonna get one for the NCLEX.....

Hmm....are you not going to use a review book for NCLEX? I certainly AM! I used one for the PN boards and it really helped me understand the test question format for the actual exam. There are even NCLEX review courses that many students take to help better prepare themselves. Soo...while you may not be getting a NCLEX review in your program, (btw...there is one offered at my school and it's even worth 3 credit hours!) you probably will be reviewing a published NCLEX book.

As far as a nursing course review for finals....I saved all of my notes and used the binder to review the material that we covered as well as the unit outlines in the syllabus. That was my review and I did pretty well on my nursing final....I scored a 91.

I plan to use these binders when I am preparing for the NCLEX too. BIG HELP!

NOPE :(

Ours are comprehensive and we have 1 question for every hour of lecture (so I guess we have to know it all) It will be a toughy...

Hi Julie,

I feel your pain....ours was pretty much the same as yours. Very nerve wracking! I used my unit outlines to study and that helped me. We did receive a sheet late Friday and you know what was on it??? The outline topics. Word for word. I just scanned them all and studied the notes I took in lecture. I hope you get some rest and try to relax...you know more than you think you do! Oh yes...and GOOD LUCK! You'll do great.

Well, I ended up with a "B" in the course. If I had gotten 100% it wouldn't have made a difference. All I would have needed was a passing score of 76 and I got a 79:confused: I don't know how they rationalized thier answers form what I saw because they were straightforward-one-possible-answer questions, and I really thought I scored in the 90s.

Thier studyguides seldom followed the text anyway, so I really wouldn't expect one for an exam to follow the test questions. The studyguide and the text often disagreed on test questions. At all 5 test reviews, wherein the answers to the questions are covered to show you where you went wrong, there was heated debate. During one of the reviews, I actualy had a page number that showed the answer for the test question was wrong.

Pathetic.

That's fine, I'm leaving the program to attend a four-year college. I'm going to have to look at the way the program is run this time around and will consider other degrees. I can't let inept educators steal my dream. It's probably difficult to write test questions, but not so difficult that half the class is in an uproar on 10% of it on any given test...................something wrong there.

The Army National Guard says all I need is a Bachaelors degree to go to thier PA school, but the civillian schools for NP and PA need to see a GPA above 3.2, and I'm afraid these goofy nursing courses are going to dilute that.

But there is a bright side...........................psychology courses are finished :roll and I have so many options to chose from because of the GPA that I do have.

It's all good;)

Good luck Peeps!:kiss Beauty school crosses my mind at least once daily. :D

All My Best,

Sadly, beauty school is not one of my options:chuckle but the only stool you'd have to clean up wouldn't smell that bad and you wouldn't need to hold your breath :p

Thanks, I'll take all the luck I can get.

Good luck to you too.

YES I am going to use a review book and everything I can get my hands on for the NCLEX. I meant we won't get one provided by my program, and you have a course in it?! I should have made myself clear. Sorry, my mind is buried somewhere between my pharmacology final and my processes final. :)

STUDY guide, What is that? LOL.

I think I'm seeing a trend here.

Actually, I was wondering that exact same thing?!!

Well, some days waitressing again sounds like soooooooooo much more fun. Even French fry frying would be preferable to this torture.

Well, last day of clinical tomorrow and final on Monday and that's it for 3 weeks, then the whip cracks again.....crud.
