Did Anyone Apply for Spring 2018 for SUNY Farmingdale?!?

Published

Hello all!

I didn't see anyone here on allnurses that posted about SUNY Farmingdales advanced standing transfer Nursing B.S! I applied at the end of July and so far have received a letter that i passed the first round of admissions! YAY! I thought maybe we could all support one another and say our GPAs and Prerequisite grades for anyone who is interested. I have scheduled my TEAS exam for October 2nd. If anyone is interested in knowing, I decided to go with the TEAS at a PSI center and not at farmingdale so that I will be able to send my scores to other schools if I choose. I am really hoping to get in! Nursing is my dream. :)

I already have completed all the pre req courses required by farmingdale. I am currently a senior at a CUNY school studying Health Science.

Overall GPA: 3.65

Pre Req Course Grades:

1. A and P 1 = B+

2. A and P 2 = A

3. Eng. Comp 1 = A

4. Math (Pre Cal) = B+

5. Psych = A+

6. Three Liberal Arts Courses: (will vary among individuals)

A. Eng comp 2 = A-

B. Music = A

C. History = A

Pre Req GPA: 3.7

Quick questions for anyone who got this info from them:

1. Does this years TEAS exam have a calculator? And are we allowed to use it during the math section?

2. Is this a rolling admissions type thing or do they review applications AFTER the deadline?

Thank you everyone! I hope everyone interested gets in!

Does anyone know if our immunizations need to be in before Friday in order to register for classes?

What's the nuclei pass rate? And I believe it's low because there are few seats. And everyone in the advanced standing degree goes at their own pace because some people have 30 credits total and some, like me, have over 90 credits. So some people have more classes to take and pple graduate at different semesters.

Are you sure about everyone going at their own pace? It says the program takes a minimum of 3 years to complete, unless that information is obsolete. I have almost all the liberal arts stuff complete except for like, 3 courses. I'm hoping they accept my lifespan psych in place of child development psych b

Yeah the wellness center needs to have them in order to remove the registration hold on ur account

Hi everyone!

Congratulations to all those accepted! I just wanted to come on here and clear some things up for everyone since I went through the same thing last fall. So the nursing department is unorganized initially but it does get better once you get the hang of blackboard and everything. It sounds like you have your orientation to the nursing department this week, there you will make your schedule and the department will override the hold on your account for vaccinations. Something to research prior to the orientation is what a DEU is and if you think it is right for you and your career goals. It was an option for the advance standing group last year at Huntington hospital and St. Joseph's. A lot of information is going to be thrown at you during that orientation so bring a notepad and pen. Do not rush or panic to get your physical in before the orientation either because it needs to be done over the break. As for CPR certification, they will discuss at the orientation that one of the professor teaches the required CPR course for $55 (that was last year's price) in January and it makes life super easy.

To clarify on information regarding NCLEX pass rates and the amount of students taking the exam, there are 24 freshmen in the fall and 48-50 advance standing in the spring. This means the max number of students taking the NCLEX in a single year for farmingdale is 74. Since advance standing is new, 2014 was freshman only. As you can see, 10 people sitting to take the NCLEX out of 24 accepted into the program isn't great. Unfortunately, the reality of farmingdale is that they have strict failure policies. My original cohort lost 2 students (including myself) through withdrawing from fundamentals in order to avoid being excused from the program. I am retaking fundamentals currently and doing fine, but my new cohort has lost 2 students to the same thing and have several students in danger of getting excused from the program pending their final exam. These measures are in place to make sure that those who take the NCLEX will pass. They "weed out" the ones that may not pass.

Another thing to clarify on is the length of the program. Unfortunately (again), the program is 3 years and can't be done any quicker then that. This is because there are 6 clinical rotations that must be taken consecutively and can't be taken together. Many advance standing students last semester have degrees and many credits, but still have to do the full 3 year program at part time. It isn't the worst. If you have the prerequisites done, then you have more time to focus on the clinical classes.

I know it is an overwhelming time for everyone here because of everything being thrown at you. Lots of things will clear up in the next week. Good luck everyone!

Thank you so much for this information! And yeah I am worried about the failure policies as well. And @careerchange18, I meant that as some people will take longer than 3 years to complete it. And they did not accept my lifespan psych in place for child development.

That's ridiculous. Nursing schools require lifespan because it's comprehensive. I don't understand why they'd wanna be so limiting.

Thanks so much for all of the information. Are the classes really that difficult or is it more of just getting overwhelmed with work? Do you know if I need to take microbiology to do the first semester classes or can I do it over the summer? Hate to be such a bother but last thing, does anyone have an idea of what the course sequence looks like?

I don't know honestly. But on my transfer credit report they only accepted it as a psych elective and we don't even need psych electives. Out of my 95 credits they accepted 77

You don't need micro to do first semesters classes. Just micro before u graduate. I also need micro so me and u are in the same boat lol and this semester we will probably have 4 days of school and an extra day for the clinical

They offer micro in the summer

How did you find your transfer credit evaluations?

NIce! And on oasis it shows under transcript.
