Trying to find out if anyone applied for the Nursing program at Malcolm X? What should I expect after applying?

Hey all! word of advise... DO NOT COUNT ON ANY DEADLINE TO EXPECT NOTICE IF YOU'VE BEEN ACCEPTED OR NOT! I am currently on my second semester and let me tell you, I gave up on trusting any date they have given. There is ALWAYS a reason to delay EVERYTHING! We were not able to register for classes A WEEK before they officially started, which left many of us scrambling to make arrangements with our personal life. Orientation was completely useless and a waste of time. However, knowing who to go to for help was a plus. Even if you went to Truman or any city college to complete your prereqs, get those transcripts over to Malcolm as soon as you can. Physically hand in your High School Diploma or GED. MAKE COPIES OF EVERYTHING and keep them handy, they will always loose things! I cant tell you how many of us had to turn in stuff that had already been given. Once you got accepted, make that doctors appointment, I believe the drug test needs to be within 30 days of starting classes but don't quote me. I did mine as soon as orientation was done and we began classes 3 weeks later. Have your CNA certification (or completion of class), valid CPR card, TEAS score, Drug test, physical, and diploma & transcripts ready, they will ask for these at some point. I am sure im missing something, but I dont have my folder with me to tell you exactly what is required. Overall, dont count on those deadlines to find out if you've been accepted or not... Chances are, you probably wont hear back till late June/July. Set yourself up for disappointments now! trust me with that. Good luck everyone! I am always here to help and hope to see you all next semester!

Well congrats to you and thanks for that advice and heads up. Is the program itself organized? And, was there evening classes available? How soon do we start clinical if accepted?

Wishing you all the best!!

No, the program is not organized. There is always changes and they are usually last minute. First semester was a sh*t show. Don't blame faculty tho, they are as clueless as we are and get sprung with last minute changes the day of as well. Evening classes are available, but you'll still have to take some time off from work to go to clinicals (if you work a 9-5). Clinicals begins right away, although you are not on site until 2-3 weeks after performing and passing skills.

I'm not surprised whatsoever City Colleges has a horrible pattern of being unorganized and people giving out the wrong information. I will say most of the teachers are great so thats what I'm banking on otherwise I may just apply elsewhere.

If you're going into this thinking it's going to be rainbows and sunshine... you're in for a rude awakening! But I agree, you'll come across some of the most passionate people that really do want you to succeed. Utilize every source you can!

So does anyone have any idea by when we might here from them, on wether we were accepted or not to the program? It's almost April, and I'm already getting emails from ccc to sign up for classes next week! Ugh, I hate this wait.

I just got an email saying that while looking over my application they noticed I owed the school $305 and will not process it until I have paid them. So I hope they will be processing our applications soon and letting us know.

What department sent you the email?

Not sure, but probably a month or so after the deadline.
